Tell your kids not to be gloryhunting fans. They'll thank you in the end

A good read that probably reflects how we feel about our beloved Aston Villa and how we started supporting our wonderful club.

I told my step daughter she could support anybody she wanted to (when she was 9 and wanted to follow a team). She asked about Villa and I said ok but don't support them just cos I do. I said "You can follow anyone you like except Birmingham City. If you start supporting them you will be moving to your dad's!!" I said laughing. She wanted a Villa shirt so we bought one for her as a Christmas present, and she wore it to the last game of the season against Sheffield United when we celebrated the 25th anniversary of winning the European Cup. As the loudspeakers replayed the commentary from Brian Moore and that famous line leading up to the goal. I could barely speak, my eyes welled up and I fondly remembered that magical moment. The hairs on the back of my neck and arms stood on end. The emotions came flooding back. The crowd as one roared, all around the ground, Villa fans wearing their colours with pride. That half time parade with the team of 1982 walking around with the trophy, a perfect sunny day capped with a comfortable 3:0 win. It was the last time we got to go to Villa Park due to finances and geography, but she still remembers that day. She's 21 in November and she still has the shirt - even though she has long since out grown it. Her boyfriend is an Arsenal fan so she sort of shows allegience to them but I think secretly she will always have a soft spot for the Villa as it was her first ever game.

I have a soft spot for Arsenal fans.....

Tell the last few generations of gloryhunters that they were wrong and that the latest generation of S*y babies are wrong. Waste of time.
