Bloomeram

Alert Team
Derby County: Carson, Wisdom, Pearce, Davies (C), Baird; Huddlestone, Ledley; Weimann, Vydra, Lawrence; Nugent

Excellent changes but where is Palmer again no creativity in the middle of the park so effectively we have no feeders for the front men unless Lawrence gets his ass in gear  COME ON DERBY !

And Baird too.... Another for the bonfire

This really is the last chance saloon : lose this and we will surely fall out of top 6 and, once done, we won't get back into it.

The Russell effect continues

Biard at left back is more of a risk than Fozzie surely?

I can see the logic of bringing Palmer on as a sub should any of Weimann, Lawrence or Vydra (unlikely) fail to deliver.

Anyone think that Russell was much maligned? We miss his enrgy and making something happen, not a good move to let him go now and Jerome was a bizarre choice to bring in.

One thing Russell did was help us get the ball into their last third quickly, yes he usually fucked it up then but at least it helped the defence get back into shape whisky overcoming our brain dead midfield!!

I said this about JR ages ago on another forum far far away

I don’t ever remember you being a JR fan.
He was all work and little brain imo, but the last time we played well - at Birmingham - was, I think, the last time he played.
All well and good being wise after the event...most on here, including me, wanted rid but we sure have collapsed since he went.

Not as such a fan but the observation was that we seemed to miss him when gone. WWe've barely got a point since then

Okay...last time I left the country we promptly won against the odds....5-0. This time we get our first win for two and a half months!
Clearly no coincidence so the message is clear...club together...buy me a place somewhere nice and warm for next season and promotion is assured.
Just sayin’. Happy Easter.

So 2 shots to their 18, 36% possession, season low passing accuracy, they missed a penalty BUT we won. All that matters today - but a lot of work still needed to avoid dropping back onto another bad run

How can we get promoted next season from the premiership? ?

Poor referee again today, penalty was soft at the very least, he missed the forearm smash on Lawrence which should have been a straight red and the player leading with his arm in Carson's face which nearly led to a goal. We all missed how Nugent ended up with his cut. No surprise they have more cautions than any other team.

A wins a win and at this stage of the season all that matters is the 3 pts!

I didn't want to see Russell go, he worked hard and at least made something happen, but fans only see when what he tries didn't come off. Compared to what we have now he was very useful and our form since he left suggests a vital part of the current team.

Back to defending and hitting on the break rather than the slightly more expansive stuff that saw us go 8 without a win and...... we win. Ref was abysmal.
With my ref's hat on I hope that I would have either allowed play to continue or to have a dropped ball just outside of our area.

I believe that I saw 2 simultaneous "fouls". Yes, Wisdom had a hand on the outsretched arm and the other on the shoulder of the PNE player. He shouldn't and it is an infringement. The PNE player had his right arm stretched out to prevent Wisdom running past him to get to the ball. Obstruction. In football, although some infringements lead to a direct FK and others to an indirect FK, no one infringement trumps another. In this case both committed offences according to FIFA Laws. Dropped ball or play on were the two options the ref should have used. The penalty miss was pure Karma.

Yes Russell is in the same mode as Ward, we now don't have a bundle of energy snapping at the opposition at any given time during a match, we are getting so sterile and slow getting the ball to the front men and that is one reason for the slump IMHO !

I agree Bloomer, we do not have a means to get out of our half quickly. Yes, Russell often ran into dead ends or failed to use the ball effectively having often caused the opposition to panic but he gave our defence time to re-group and for the 'midfield' to at least get into positions to protect us and defend against a counter attack! That significantly contributed to our defensive record being so good making the odd nicked goal very profitable!!
Unfortunately, I don't see an alternative from our current squad!!

I used to think Russell was over appreciated by many fans Swaley. I liked his effort but grew tired of his frequently poor decision making while others seemed to applaud him just for running however lost the cause. All effort, little outcome was often said on FM and I think that was fair. The words ‘fans only see when what he tries didn’t come off’ is imo, better suited to Keogh. A case of Russell’s ‘face fitting’ for some while Keogh’s doesn’t perhaps.

Only guy I think could do a similar role is Lawrence, he scored some cracking goals for Ipswich from a central midfield role. I think he is wasted out on the wings.

I agree with that. Think he’d be an improvement on JR going forward but more reluctant to do the tracking back. Better footballer than Russell, imo, but less of a work ethic.
