Sworn To Secrecy But Body Language Gives It Away

I’d happily put my mortgage on Alexis Sanchez leaving Arsenal to join up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City during this summer’s transfer window - let me tell you why I’m happy to put my neck on the line.

I’m not going to go into any facts and figures as you’ll be able to find them via other sources. But what I’m prepared to do is this.

Prior to Sunday’s Confederations Cup Final (Chile v Germany) City’s Claudio Bravo and Sanchez were taking media questions during Chile’s pre-match press conference. Now, if you look at Sanchez and his body language when asked about his future you’ll see his reactions.

If this comes off, and i hope it does, we're going to have one hell of a strikeforce next season

I hope he comes to City and he will improve our squad. For sure Arsenal are not going to drop 50 million quid down the toilet and have an unhappy player going through the motions for a whole season.

If Sanchez joins Aguero, GJ33, Sane, Merlin, Silva, Sterling, F25, Kipling, Red Kev - not forgetting F6, Delph, Garcia plus Bony and KI72 who will presumably be moved on...where do we play them all?

How do we get a settled team with the amount of rotation that would be required to keep everyone happy?

Meanwhile in defence we have three centre backs (one of whom is injury prone) and a somewhat unreliable left back.

Rotation is necessary. Different styles of players that can play the same position are also necessary and competition for places is always a good thing.

Only Taggart was allowed to rotate his squad; Mancini "dropped" players if I recall.

Rotation is a necessary evil given the number of games, the travel and the necessity of remaining engaged across four competitions. In the 1977-78 season we only used 18 players in the three domestic competitions with 51 games in total including three replayed games in the League Cup. Three of the 18 players made only 12 appearances between them so the main squad was only effectively 15 deep. And the game was somewhat different in terms of fitness and speed......

What a difference 30 years makes eh?

Good one Skoorb and quite true, We have struggled in the past because players got tired and if Sanchez comes he will be an asset to the rotational system which will enable us to play fresh players when needed.

I don't think fans like rotation, but with so many games the sports science dictates otherwise. Last season the back ups were often not good enough and Pep appears to be trying to put that right if the various rumours are to be believed with the new players we are chasing.

So IF Sanchez comes will he be happy sitting on the berti (or in the stands) because it isn't his turn to be rotated into the team?

World class players will expect to be picked every week - if the team hits a rich vein of form why change it?

I'm not knocking rotation - players do get tired (obviously) and a manager needs flexibility and to be able to change tactics/formations.

It's almost as if Sanchez is too good to fit in with what we already have, and in the wrong position. Presumably rotation is just as important in defence as anywhere else? At present we have no right back unless the 34 year old Alves has signed today?

We have no Sanchez either, but then there's still about 6 weeks until the window shuts. I'd imagine if he is coming that he'll be aware of the depth of talent we have up front and that he'll be rotated like the rest of them. If he doesn't like it, he presumably won't sign :048:
