Swansea v Oxford

Swansea v Oxford Sat 6 Dec 15:00

Coming up are two crunch home games, Saturday and Tuesday, against teams around us at the bottom of the table, Oxford and Portsmouth.

First up are Oxford, fresh from their 2-1 home win against Ipswich to gain their first win in six games.

Swans have won only once in their last ten games, a disastrous run of form that’s seen us plummet down the table, only Sheff Wed have worst form.

Five straight defeats conceding fourteen goals is as dramatic a slump as you’ll see and will be hard to turn around.

A new head-coach and coaching team will this week try and instil some confidence and belief into this weak bunch of players.

Not having had a strong and vocal captain since Williams and Monk is an impediment especially when things go against you in matches.

It’s our defending that’s letting us down though and where we need to focus to get back on track.

We start off matches like an express train, burn ourselves out and finish matches like a bunch of whimps. So fitness is an obvious problem. There is also the need to defend as a team and not leave our flanks exposed.

Hopefully Matos can perform a miracle this week and get this bunch of weaklings to perform to their capability.

All we can do as fans is to get behind the players.

Vítor Matos was appointed Swansea head-coach on Monday Nov 24, together with his backroom staff, assistant head-coach Diogo Medeiros, coach Tozé Mendes, and analyst Gonçalo Ricca.
His staff have been waiting at least 12 days since their applications for work permits up to today, Saturday Dec 6.
The club are still awaiting legal clearance from the Home Office and the Football Association for them to begin work due to post-Brexit immigration rules.

Wales, through the Labour and Plaid Cymru coalition and supposedly acting on behalf of the people, has declared themselves an open doors country, a “Nation of Sanctuary”.

Vitor’s backroom staff would have received a better welcome if they had come by boat across the channel.
No rules there, and an open arms welcome policy, including an all inclusive stay in a 4 star hotel, Universal Credit, priority housing, pocket money, free health care, free dentistry, free driving lessons and free taxis back and forth the stadium.

Very important win but an even more important clean sheet, that will do wonders for our confidence. Burgess was stepping up and winning every ball, exactly the type of energy we need.

As much as I like Galbraith in midfield, that game has persuaded me that he should be our right back for the foreseeable. Absolutely ran the game.

Widell was effective off the ball, him and Franco in the press were excellent. Stamenic was also very good today, we’ll take advantage of his cross field ball eventually.

Need that same workrate on Tuesday!

Huge win for us!

Matos seems to have brought in a much-needed energy to the dressing room. I only managed to watch the second half but for me, whilst we didn't have a great deal of the ball as Oxford came at us chasing 2 goals, there did seem a bit more to us, a bit more fight and competitive edge to us.

I don't remember Oxford creating anything really threatening in that 2nd half and as you say, that clean sheet will also be massive for us.

And like Matos said after the win, recovery now will be key going into another massive home game on Tuesday night.

Swansea 2 (Stamenic 40’, Tymon 45’) - Oxford 0

At last something to cheer about. A win at the seventh time of asking.
A weekend of smiles instead of gloom.

Amazing what a week in training can do. The players gave a hundred per cent today and fought for every ball. We went two goals up through a Stamenic header and a brilliant shot from Tymon, but this time did not capitulate second-half. Now we need to repeat on Tuesday against Portsmouth with the same amount of endeavour.
