Swansea v Burnley Sat 15 March 15:00

Final game of an intense schedule before the two week International break. The Swans players must be knackered with their high intensity play and games coming thick and fast.

They were unlucky not to get a point at Watford and keep the unbeaten run going since Sheehan took over. Maybe they were trying too hard at Watford and lacked composure but no faulting the players commitment.

So we move on to the next match and it’s at home to the seemingly invincible Burnley, a team with a hugely impressive defence, just 11 goals conceded in 37 games, compared to Swansea’s 46 goals conceded. They will have the advantage of an extra days rest in the congested scheduling of matches, having played on Tuesday night.

They may have a terrific defensive record but the Clarets dropped points in their last match, a 1-1 home draw with West Brom. They are still unbeaten at home this season though after conceding a first goal at Turf Moor since last December.

Head-coach Parker and centre-back Riley were both shown red cards in a melee after the match. Burnley are appealing Riley’s card, so he will be able to play on Saturday.

For the Swans they’ll be hoping Darling is fit as loanee Delcroix is unable to play against his parent club.

Whether Sheehan will shuffle the team with a two week break coming up is debatable. Ginnelly looked good in his cameo appearance at Watford. Cooper came on too late to make a difference and Joe Allen seems to be glued to the bench.

Swans would do well to get a draw from this game.

Some hope then. Burnley have now conceded in two of their last three games in the Championship after going 12 games without conceding.

Swansea 0 - Burnley 2 (Brownhill 4’, Anthony 22’)

Played off the park in one of the most one-sided first halves I’ve seen at home this season.

What Sheehan said to the players before the match I don’t know but they were like rabbits caught in the headlights, they froze and couldn’t put two passes together. Two mistakes, two goals, could have been more by half time.

Second half no changes until 57’ but at least we tried to make a game of it. We still had no idea how to score for the second match running, we kept on crossing the ball for their giant centre-back and goalkeeper to gobble up.

There was a massive gap in class between the teams and I wonder where we go from here as we have Leeds next in two weeks time, another embarrassing defeat coming up then.

Of the teams below us, Derby, Cardiff and Oxford won today and the gap between us and the drop has narrowed to only 6 points with 8 games to go.

One thing is for sure a big shake up of the playing staff is needed in the summer whatever division we end up in, plus the appointment of an experienced chairman and head-coach.
