Another important home match, the last of this month, with the next home match on 8 Feb.

Blackburn are one of five teams between the Swans and the bottom three in the table and are five points behind us. Of those five teams three of them have a game in hand over us, one of them being Blackburn. They are in poor form with one win in the last ten games but surprisingly six of those were draws. That one win was a 2-0 home win against high flyers Millwall six games ago.

Last Saturday they lost 3-0 at Ipswich with former player Sammy Szmodics, sold to Ipswich for £9m in 2024, scoring the third goal. Blackburn failed to have a shot on target from ten shots in that game.

Their head-coach is former Barnsley, West Brom and Watford manager Valerian Ismael, who was appointed last February.

Our reverse fixture against Blackburn resulted in a 1-2 win last September.

The Swans need to win this match with Charlton, Norwich and Portsmouth winning last Saturday with us now only five points from the drop and tough away matches at Hull and Watford coming up.

Can the Swans take their goal chances this time?

Let’s hope we get a better referee tonight.
Tom Nield and his assistants missed so many foul tackles, missed the penalty shout, didn’t play the advantage rule and made Fulton go off when he didn’t want to be treated. Nield also made him wait over the 30 seconds to come back on resulting in Birmingham scoring when we were down to ten men and was generally sub standard throughout the game. Not the first this season and probably not the last.

A much needed win tonight and the eight point gap from the bottom three restored. Two goals from Vipotnik, who is now the Championships leading scorer, and I thought he excelled. We were not at our best but the goals came tonight.

Blackburn were diving in to tackles to try and disrupt our passing game and they played a high press throughout the match which unsettled our defence at times. Their standout player was midfielder 24 Moussa Baradji who won a lot of ball for them. Their centre-back 26 Connor O’Riordan was lucky to stay on the field after an earlier booking, the ref choosing to ignore his many bad tackles. There was no sign of ex-Swan Ryan Hedges, he must have been injured.
