Swansea City v Burnley

Swansea v Burnley Sat 12 September 15:00

There is a let up in the congested fixtures where we have a free mid-week without a game next week. Burnley on Saturday 12/9, Lincoln away the following Saturday 19/9, then it’s the interminable International break.

Burnley coming up, the see-saw club are back in the Championship and are yet to win a game, sounds ominous.

Their last promotion season 2024-25 the Clarets finished second behind Leeds on goal difference with 100 points, 28 wins and just two defeats, conceding only 16 goals. With only four wins in the PL last season they were relegated with Wolves and West Ham. Scott Parker departed by mutual consent with four games still left. Their new head-coach is Nicky Hayen who joined from Belgian Pro League side Genk last July.

Transfers out 72m, transfers in 45.8m this summer, a 26.2m gain, plus a parachute payment due of some 49m and you can see that they have a big advantage to bounce straight back up.

Ex-Swan Connor Roberts is back after long term injury and played in the 1-1 draw at Wrexham on Tuesday night.
Jamie Vardy, 39, has signed for Burnley until the end of the season and could make his debut against us. He scored 7 goals in 29 games for US Cremonese in Italy Serie A last season. Cremonese were relegated along with Verona and Pisa.

Swans meanwhile will be smarting from their first defeat of the season and will be desperate to get back on track.

Hope Matos goes with:

Vigs, Key, Fil, Welsh, Tymo, Stam, Just, Eustaquio, Opoku, Idah, Yeo

You could debate Widell/Just. I know Just hasn't pulled up any trees but he's only going to get up to speed with the pace of this level by playing games. Franco won't be rushed in but would expect him on the bench and to be eventually taking that remaining 8 position over the coming weeks.

Don't ask me why but I have a niggling thought in my mind that Matos will stick Ronald in for this one.

Can't see him starting Ronald at home. Neither of Yeo/Opoku played 90 last tuesday. Saying that, coming off the bench as a third winger option if we're leading seems a fairly realistic possibility. Be a bit annoyed if we're chasing the game and Monga isn't prefered/doesn't get involved. I get he's getting up to speed, but his ability of beating a man in games where you need stuff to happen is the reason we picked him up.

Also could see Widell being the prefered choice to go out wide off the bench. Especially if Franco is involved and presumably takes his spot of coming on for Just.

Find it strange that Monga isn’t making the bench today. Do we need Parente, Seelt and Lissah all on there?

We haven’t exactly been great with PL loans in the past, Yalcouye being a good example last year where he should have had more starts for me

Matos said it was about Monga getting up to speed. Hopefully we see him next week or after the internationals. I think he could have a lot to offer us late on in games.

Mmmhh we heard that excuse before with a certain Finish midfielder.

If Matos liked the look of him I am 100% certain he would have him on the bench over a LB who will never touch the pitch if Tymon isnt injured and a winger who was on his way out of the club a week ago.

I wasn't completely sold on the signing anyway he is a 17 yr old who barely played in a team which got relegated last season. Man City signed him because he has potential and he might be a good player in 3-5yrs time but for right now I'm not convinced.

The warning signs are there again.
