Swans v Man City FA Cup Fifth Round
Wed 10 Feb 17:30 (live on BT Sport)

With the absence of fans, there’s no gate receipts, only the FA Prize Money:
Fifth Round winners £135,000 (8 teams)
Fifth Round losers £45,000 (8 teams)

Table toppers Man City have a busy week coming up:
Sun 7/2 Liverpool v Man City Sun 16:30
Wed 10/2 Swans v Man City Wed 17:30
Sat 13/2 Man City v Spurs Sat 17:30

VAR controversy has raised its head again in the FA Cup where the PL clubs drawn at home will use it but non PL clubs drawn at home are not allowed to use it. The next round all clubs will have VAR.
9/2 Burnley v Bournemouth - VAR
9/2 Man U v West Ham - VAR
10/2 Swans v Man City
10/2 Leicester v Brighton - VAR
10/2 Sheff Utd v Bristol City - VAR
10/2 Everton v Spurs - VAR
11/2 Wolves v Southampton - VAR
11/2 Barnsley v Chelsea

Here’s a clip of the controversial goals last time we met. If we’d had VAR two of the Man City goals would have been disallowed:
Sat 16 March 2019 FA Cup Quarter Final
Swans 2 - Man City 3

How can we achieve the seemingly impossible task of beating Man City on Wednesday, we probably can’t is the simple answer. They have now equalled the all time winning run by an English top flight side across all competitions, winning each of their last 14 matches. They are five points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand after demolishing last years PL Champions Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday 1-4, even missing a penalty.
The dilemma for the Swans is whether to put out a full side or give the squad players a game and rest players, or a mixture of both. The first name on the team sheet will be Freddie Woodman because back-up goalkeeper Ben Hamer is cup-tied.
I suspect Steve Cooper will go for a mixture of first team regulars and fringe players as in previous rounds. This was the team that beat Forest 5-1 in the last round - Woodman, Latibeaudiere, Bennett, Guehi, Roberts, Hourihane, Grimes, Manning, Dhanda, Routledge, Cullen.
Routledge and Cullen are out injured but we have reinforcements in Kyle Naughton and Korey Smith, with new signings Morgan Whittaker, Kieron Freeman, Paul Arriola, and Jordan Morris.
I think the message will be - no pressure just go out and enjoy yourselves.

The teams:

Swansea City: Freddie Woodman, Joel Latibeaudiere, Ben Cabango, Marc Guehi, Connor Roberts, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Ryan Manning, Yan Dhanda, Jamal Lowe, Jordan Morris.

Substitutes: Lewis Webb, Ryan Bennett, Andre Ayew, Conor Hourihane, Morgan Whittaker, Paul Arriola, Jake Bidwell, Kyle Naughton, Kieron Freeman.

Manchester City: Zack Steffen, Eric Garcia, Ilkay Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus, Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling (captain), Ferran Torres, Kyle Walker.

Substitutes: Ederson, Adrian Bernabe, Joao Cancelo, Tommy Doyle, Phil Foden, Claudio Gomes, Riyad Mahrez, John Stones, Oleksandr Zinchenko.

All Man City, inevitable 29’ goal, Walker, full back, crosses the ball straight through everybody into goal, shocking defending
0-1

More shocking defending 46’ Sterling 0-2
Roberts ran away from Sterling instead of marking him, and Latibeaudiere sleeping.
Both full backs let us down tonight.

Jesus 49’ 0-3
Latibeaudiere this time passing out from the back gave the ball away.
This is pathetic defending again

66’
Bidwell for Guehi
Freeman for Roberts
Hourihane for Dhanda
Whittaker for Morris
Arriola for Lowe

After our 1-3 Cup defeat last night I note that Brentford also lost to PL opposition, 1-3 at home to Leicester, end of January in the FA Cup. However, Brentford have continued their unbeaten run in the league and are now 21 games without defeat. The Cup loss did not affect their league form at all and I’m hoping it’s the same for us.
It makes you wonder though how big a gulf there is between the top half of the PL and the top half of the Championship.
