Swans v Derby
Derby beat Preston 1-0 at Pride Park last Saturday, but have no mid-week game before playing us this Saturday, so they have a free week to prepare and will be fresher than us. We had to travel to London on Tuesday night to play Millwall, and what a result that was as we came away with another excellent away win.
Looking back, Derby were bottom of the Championship on minus three points and 18 points adrift of safety with 17 games gone, after being deducted a total of 21 points.
Today they are bottom but one in the table with 6 games left, and 6 points from safety on 28 points.
Without the points deductions they would have been two points behind Swansea on 49 points, that is before last night’s win at Millwall
They were deducted 12 points last September for going into administration and breaking Financial Fair Play rules.
They were deducted 9 points last November for breaking Profitability & Sustainability Rules over the £81m sale of Pride Park to their former owner Mel Morris, after initially being charged in Sept 2020.
They are under a player transfer embargo and up for sale.

Despite these setbacks Derby’s average gate is the third best in the Championship at 22,665.

Swans 2 (Piroe 8’ 16’) - Derby 1 (Lawrence 22’ pen)
Much was made on Quest about Cabango impeding Cybulski in injury time for a penalty appeal turned down, and the ref blowing the whistle right at the end instead of giving time for a Derby free-kick.
What about Paterson one on one with goalkeeper Allsop outside his area and being blatantly obstructed, a clear sending off offence. Also Curtis Davies’s raised arm hand-ball from a Wolf shot in the penalty area that was ignored. It was another poor refereeing display which turned the match.
However we got the three points in the end, with a Piroe brace that puts him on 20 goals for the season and makes him a target for the vultures this summer.
Six matches left, four of which are home, we are 8 points off the play-offs and Martin wants no let up.
We’ve got just short of a week off before Barnsley are the visitors. Another club in trouble at the bottom and a poor away record, these matches are not easy, as Derby have just proved, but we have momentum and are in a good run of form.
