Swans v Coventry

Vital Football Legend
We have two home games this week against struggling sides which gives us a chance to get back on track. Alarm bells have been ringing for a while now, with poor performances still producing good results which have papered over the cracks. We were truly awful on Saturday, probably our worst showing of the season against a team who had gone 8 games without a win, and Steve Cooper needs to sort it out quickly.
It’s Coventry up first on Wednesday night, who despite their lowly position in the table will come full of confidence after beating high fliers Brentford 2-0 last weekend. Whether there will be wholesale changes we’ll have to wait and see. Key defender Ryan Bennett was subbed at half time injured on Saturday when the score was 1-1, hopefully he’ll be okay to play this week. Sadly, it looks as if striker Jordan Morris, who was stretchered off with a leg injury, is out for the season and we wish him well in his recovery.

Steve Cooper requested the FA to change referee Andy Woolmer for the Sheff Wed match earlier in the season due to previous controversial refereeing.
It possibly stemmed from the Feb 2020 goalless home draw with QPR last season where the Swans had three penalty claims waved away by Woolmer.
60’ Yan Dhanda went down in the box under a challenge from Yoann Barbet, no penalty given.
90’ Rhian Brewster was blatantly brought down by goalkeeper Liam Kelly, once again Woolmer refused to point to the spot.
90’+ Ayew went down in the penalty area, no penalty given, much to the frustration of Cooper.
Back to this season, Cooper’s plea to change the ref was turned down and the Nov 25 Sheff Wed home match went ahead with Woolmer in charge, it ended in a 1-1 draw.
There was controversy in stoppage time when Cooper felt his team should have had a penalty or seen a potential winner from Kasey Palmer stand. Woolmer rejected both the penalty claim and Palmer’s overhead kick into the net and gave the Owls a free-kick instead for a foul on the goalkeeper. Replays showed there was no Swans player anywhere near him.
“One thing was for sure, that whatever the decision was, it was not going to us. It's personal unfortunately. Apparently it was a foul on the goalkeeper that he blew the whistle for. Good luck in writing about that one, whatever it was. But it was a performance I predicted from the official and one that I spoke to the governing body about a few days ago. My prediction was right."
Cooper was fined £3,500 for his outburst.

Boring game, we’re not getting anywhere against their big defenders.
Ref is disrupting the game blowing up for petty fouls all the time.
We look blunt in attack.
