It’s our local rivals next, the one match in the season that stands out above all others for Swans fans and a must win.
After us losing so easily and with little fight against Bournemouth on Tuesday, the derby couldn’t have come at a worse time, with players tired and moral low. The only positive is the bounce-back ability after a defeat with the team this season, not having lost consecutive games.
We have to regroup and make team changes though. Our defence was uncharacteristically weak last match. In anticipation of an aerial bombardment Cabango, fresh from signing a new long term contract, has to play and hopefully Guehi who is back in light training again after a groin strain, plus Bidwell for Manning
Midfield was also an issue and Fulton should return, Hourihane, who has looked out of sorts recently (February he was nominated for the PFA player of the month award) maybe making way.
Up front Lowe and Ayew were looking tired. Whittaker, who was lively and the only threat when he came on, should get his first start.
We know this team is capable of more. It’s was only last month we beat run-away leaders Norwich and second placed Watford the month before that with a Lowe brace.

The International break follows but gives only some of our players a rest. Manning and Hourihane have been called up to the ROI squad, Ayew for Ghana, and Cabango and Roberts for Wales.

Whittaker starts, Guehi returns after injury:

Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Kyle Naughton, Ryan Bennett, Marc Guehi; Connor Roberts, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Conor Hourihane, Jake Bidwell; Morgan Whittaker, Andre Ayew.
Substitutes: Ben Hamer, Ryan Manning, Ben Cabango, Joel Latibeaudiere, Korey Smith, Yan Dhanda, Jamal Lowe, Wayne Routledge, Ollie Cooper.

Cardiff City: Dillon Phillips; Sean Morrison (captain), Aden Flint, Ciaron Brown; Thomas Sang, Leandro Bacuna, Joe Ralls, Will Vaulks, Marlon Pack; Harry Wilson; Kieffer Moore.
Substitutes: Alex Smithies, Josh Murphy, Jonny Williams, Max Watters, Sheyi Ojo, Mark Harris, Junior Hoilett, Rubin Colwill, Sam Bowen.

0-1 down already from first attack
8’ Flint header - long throw in from Vaulks - Pack’s header saved, Flint heads in the rebound over Bennett and Roberts

25’ Continuation of Bournemouth game this.
Cardiff dominating and winning every ball in the air.
Swans only one shot and off target,
Cardiff three shots, two on target.

29’ corner straight to Flint who heads out, we are not going to get a goal lobbing high balls into the box for their big defenders to gobble up.

42’ Terrible mistake by Woodman, what was he thinking. He kicks his clearance 5 yards straight to Moore just outside the penalty area, but Bennett races back and clears Moore’s goal bound shot, how did we get away with that.

HT: 0-1
Shocking first half again. We came into the game more the last 10-15 minutes but Cardiff blocked everything.
We have no idea how to break down Cardiff’s defence so far.

93’ Whittaker a good shot but turned away.
Much better second half, all Swansea but we can’t score.

FT 0-1
Goodbye sad Swans, Watford way ahead now
We are not good enough for second place, simple as that.
“Do not go easy into that good night” well we did.
