Well, a comprehensive and somewhat embarrassing defeat today against a Bristol City side who had their first win of the season and their first away win since Dec 2017, earlier in the week against QPR.
It seemed our players were still in the dressing room when we conceded after 31 seconds as the Bristol players ran straight through us, Olsson’s headed clearance straight to a Bristol player and through for Weimann to score. It wasn’t a fluke as we were ripped apart, bullied and couldn’t hold the ball throughout and they could well have scored more if Mulder wasn’t in such fine form.
The weak midfield of Carroll and Fulton are just not good enough together for this division. Our left back Olsson looks as if he’s “left” his defensive skills at the World Cup and was very poor all game.
Bristol saw how Brum bossed the game against us last week and took a leaf out of their book with high press, strong arm tactics, leaving us no room to play out from the back.
This will now be the pattern of opponents all season as our weaknesses have already been sussed out.
Potter had no answer/no players to change City’s dominance other than Fer and Montero. Once they came on we did create a few chances. Montero was beating his man and sending some nice crosses into the box, trouble was there wasn’t anybody to get on the end of them as McBurnie had already been subbed. VdH had one header cleared off the line and that was as close as we got.
So a bitterley disappointing result after the fine showing a few days ago against Leeds.
Maybe the owners will now back the manager with some reinforcements, midfield and striker desperately needed.
Spurs 20 year old centre half Carter-Vickers season long loan signing today is hopefully the first of at least 3 players to come in by Friday.
