In the corresponding away fixture last November, Markus Schopp, who had won only one of his 15 games in charge, had just been dismissed.
It was his replacement Poya Asbaghi's first game in charge, and began with defeat as late goals from Ntcham and Paterson gave the Swans victory at Oakwell.
Both clubs had seen a change of leadership since they’d met in last season's Championship play-off semi-finals, where Steve Cooper’s Swans overcame Valerien Ismael's Barnsley side, which proved to be the last game in charge for both men.

Barnsley have struggled all season, but we can expect a tough game with them fighting the drop.

Someone forgot to tell the players this was a competitive football match and not a training session as Barnsley out-fought and out-played us. We were back to our passing around the back for passing sake mode, and had no idea how to break down the press. I lost count how many times Paterson out wide passed the ball back like a hot potato instead of attacking.
Lowly Barnsley, 23 defeats this season, should have won this easily the number of chances they had.
If we’d won this we would have been only 5 points off 6th place. The remote chance of a play-off spot has now gone. I can’t understand this lethargy and attitude by the players, especially after a week’s break.
Barnsley lost 4-1 at Millwall last match, they could have won by the same margin today.
We did wake up for the last quarter of the game, with an Ntcham strike for the equaliser livening things up, but could not break down a resolute Barnsley any further, and in the end it was too little too late.

Such a disappointing afternoon and back to square one with that performance.

Right at the end of the match, Obafemi’s shot is blocked by their Number 5 Liam Kitching. He has his arms raised and blocks the ball with his arm and deflects it for a corner, penalty. Ref ignores appeals. See highlights at 3:12.
