Swans v Barnsley

It’s a little hard to whip up any enthusiasm for the next match after watching that pathetic display by our team against bottom of the table Derby. We were badly let down following the impressive win at Cardiff and gifted a team that had forgotten how to win, their first victory in ten home games this season.
However, move on we must to face Barnsley on our cow patch of a pitch which will be a great leveller. Will there be wholesale changes or will the players be given a chance to redeem themselves. Whoever plays surely we can’t play as badly again.
We come up against a team in good recent form, having won their last three matches since being whipped 0-4 at home by Bournemouth.
We have been in good form ourselves at home recently with 4 wins and 2 draws in the last 6 games, conceding only 1 goal.
It’s probably a must win game if we want to keep up with the leaders.

Cabango replaces Naughton (injured), Dhanda replaces Smith (benched). Otherwise same starting line-up that flopped so badly on Wed night.

Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Ben Cabango, Ryan Bennett, Marc Guehi; Connor Roberts, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Jake Bidwell; Yan Dhanda; Jamal Lowe, Andre Ayew.
Substitutes: Steven Benda, Ryan Manning, Korey Smith, Viktor Gyokeres, Wayne Routledge, Liam Cullen, Joel Latibeaudiere, Oli Cooper, Kasey Palmer.

HT 1-0
I’m listening to the match on the radio today, BBC Radio Wales unfortunately.
It’s the Barnsley love-in with their ex-player Ian Walsh (and ours as well although you wouldn’t think it) gushing with praise over them, and Rob Phillips whose yelling grates on me every time the ball is near either goal, I have to turn down the volume.

Well that was a much better display after the disappointing no show in midweek, which was hopefully just a hiccup.
Having watched the highlights there were some poor refereeing decisions, with their goalkeeper lucky to stay on the field after blocking a Dhanda breakaway run, and the pull back on Lowe when he was clear on goal.
It was good to see a reaction from the players, who badly wanted to win this one after the Derby setback , and there was some slick passing moves on a poor quality pitch.
Bidwell should have done better, skying a shot from a lovely ball across goal from Fulton. Lowe was creating lots of problems with his speed on the break and all his hard work in training is paying off with three goals in as many games.
Our home record of W6 D3 L1 is the same as runaway leaders Norwich, and with only 4 goals conceded in those 10 matches.
We now have a much needed break before the games over the Xmas period, starting with QPR away next Sat, then Reading and Watford at home, who’ve just sacked their manager after only 4 months in charge and in a play-off position in the table.
