Oh dear, it's the topic everyone loves to argue about. Good old Daniel Levy!

For the last 10 or so years on here, I have had, and many others have had some extremely heated exchanges about good old Mr Levy. The man truly does appear to be the human equivalent of marmite. You either love him & totally respect what he's done for our club, or you hate him & totally wish he'd sell up to some bent oil baron who has nothing to offer, other than bottomless pockets. The divide really is (or was?) that vast.

Speaking from my own perspective, for the life of me, I still can't fathom out how some supporters have such hatred and vitriol for our chairman & part owner. It's as though people preferred the days before Mr Levy came in, you know, when finishing 13th in the league & having a decent cup run were considered a successful season. Crazy!

I really don't see or understand how people are able to deny that, year upon year, our club has become stronger than the year before, both on and off the pitch. Don't get me wrong, Mr Levy has made some mistakes that were truly Gross (see what I did there lol). Many of those 'anti-Levy' supporters seem to turn to Mr Levy's supposed bad treatment of the lovable lump that goes by the name of Martin Jol. However, those supporters conveniently forget that, when sacking Martin Jol, Levy was acting under the guidance of the snake known as Damien Comolli. Such was that decision a Comolli decision, Mr Levy went public and, after hiring Juande Ramos, stated…

"He has recommended Juande Ramos, clearly he will have [to take] responsibility if it doesn't work, but I have every confidence it will." (The quote is ‘http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-496661/Comolli-lose-job-Ramos-fails-Tottenham-warns-Levy.html#ixzz4h9L4vVPz')

So, Mr Levy stuck to his word. Ramos failed, Comolli was booted & the club has got better and better ever since. We've gone from finishing 13th & having half decent cup runs to, well, when was the last time we finished lower than 6th? When was the last time we didn't have European Football in one form or another? It's been over 50 years since our club saw the consistency that is now being served to us each season and, whether we like it or not, much of the plaudits for this consistency MUST go to Mr Levy. After-all, if he's responsible for the bad things that have happened since taking over, he must be equally responsible for the good things, too!

Whilst watching all the emotional scenes at WHL on Sunday (sadly in my front room) it was great to see a camera pan round to a massive banner that simply said "Thank you Daniel Levy". Finally, public backing of a much maligned figure within our club. How on earth can we see that new stadium slowly swallowing the iconic WHL & not think to ourselves, "Bloody hell Danny boy, that's impressive"?

I've said it before & I'll say it again. I would not swap Daniel Levy for any other owner/chairman in the world. And I mean that! But my opinion is not the point of this article. The point of this article is, surely Mr Levy has now earned the right to be cut a bit of slack from even his most staunch of haters? What say you?

For what?

delivering a stadium after almost 20 years?

Selling our best players when we start getting a side together

As greaves said, if we keep our players I'll start believing he cares about the team.

We have won 1 cup under Enic

I wonder what we would be saying if he hadn't hired Pochettino. But he has, and he got that right at the right time. And from all reports he wasn't convinced...he took a risk. And for that he should be lauded.

Now, Greavsie's points kick in and we will see where we are this time next season.

It's a difficult one. Some of the decisions taken by ENIC over the years make my blood boil. But then I think back to the days of Irving Scholar, Mr Sugar, the points deductions for dodgy deals etc etc and think we are in safe hands. Football finances have changed so much in a short period of time I am actually pretty grateful that we are run by people who are not into the boom and bust culture of other clubs and are clearly concerned about maintaining the roots of the club . Whatever you say about Mr Lewis and Levy - they are after all - Tottenham fans as well as businessmen. Personally - I think the blame for failure on the pitch cant always be chucked at the door of the Chairman (which it has been at WHL from time to time). If the Manager has little impact when players cross the white line on a Saturday what chance has the chairman got to influence matters!
What they have done in relation to attempting to regenerate and invest in the borough should be applauded - particularly when dealing with the politics involved in such deals. Onwards and upwards. Time will tell. I am hopeful of a bright lilywhite future!

For all that he's achieved, and he has, it was a poor decision borne out of inexperience and over-thinkng the tactical battle we faced that day.

I'm expecting that he learned a lesson that day; big games are not the time to take experiments from the training routines onto the pitch.

If he does it again, the faithful will rip into him and the trust will broken for good.

What I want to know is whether Levy actually thought of the NLD project himself, as he is always given the kuodos for being a brilliant visionary.

Personally I judge success on trophies and one in 17 years is pathetic. I don't give a toss about being financially stable and not spending money - it is not my money. Lewis holds the pursestrings and instructs Levy what is expected.

Both fans of Spurs? I don't think I buy that.

We started buying properties as they became available under Sugar, we continued with that approach under ENIC, until we owned enough of the land and had the support of the council we didn't have a hope of constructing a new stadium because of the thresholds for compulsory purchase for one and because the council kept telling us to look elsewhere - that effectively only changed when Lammy got elected in 2000 and finally came on board to support our bid to rebuild, so the 'vision' of a new stadium had been their from the day ENIC took over as it was one of their stated objectives, just as a new training ground was and just as it was that we'd start producing our own players in the PL era....

All in all the vision was there, but on the whole they were far too optimistic about the time scales involved and woefully under-estimated the local politics and opposition they'd face....

As for not spending money - they spent money, plenty of it, but not enough and certainly not enough when it could have made all the difference.

Levy ain't good at hiring managers or standing by them. He was even sceptical about Poch so nearly got that wrong.

He has also appointed poor advisors and bought shite players while selling our best or not keeping them happy.

Way behind on stadium delivery in comparison to our rivals.

Not signed a decent striker since Berbatov.

Had the appearance and charisma of a German concentration camp commander .

Should I cut him some slack ?

He's a fan of money, to pretend otherwise is childish.

Jack Walker was a fan of football, same as Abramovich and Mansour, they didn't get involved to make money out of their clubs.

No one is expecting him to spend billions on the side, but if he was serious about making us win stuff they would pay more in wages to key players and we wouldn't fart Arse over penny's in the transfer window

That accords exactly with what I know. The idea of a replacement stadium wasn't Levy's, and I imagine that a lot of the exact configuration of the stadium complex is down to architects.

My 'question' remains as it was - why is Levy credited with the vision?

What he should be 'credited' with is finally (and 'finally' is the key word) managing to deliver the stadium aspect...well in a year of so's time.

Along the way he has alienated so many businesses and people with his negotiating tactics and I don't find that especially admirable.

20 years to get a stadium built is pathetic. They should have just built it elsewhere . Set as back years all this naffing around.

He doesnt get any slack from me. Until we win a major trophy then I wont be impressed. No one remembers losers or runners up.

As for joe lewis, he is a tight prick who like chiv said only wants more on top of his billions. Will he sell when we have a nice big stadium to go with everything else.

Boy was I excited in '99 when I heard we were being bought by a multi-billionaire Spurs fan.

Turns out we were bought by a muli-billionaire who had vaguely heard of Spurs 100 years ago when but a lad. A multi-billionaire that won't sanction spending anthing on the teams that dorsn't come from players sales.

Fairs do's though as he turned the £30-50m or whatever that was stumped up to buy us into £0.75b in 17 years using the tv money. Silverware doesn't do that.
