I'm A Yam Yam without the chip no way never you hear me :159: :159: :161: :161: :25: :25: :25:

I love the yam yam option. Made me laugh out loud. Living here I get to listen to some very funny diatribes about "brummies" and people then say , "but you are ok, obviously".

Basically Clive me babby some tossers want to do away with Gods Country or otherwise known as the Black Country and they want us all to become Brummies in a nutshell.

SERIOUS :0

Bloody hell, i know times and changing like but fook me its our heritage, not accepting this, i ain't no brummie i prefer the piss take yam yam name lol

I just think they have to mess with everything and am trying to take away all area's history, i reckon it's cos we black country folk put Birmingham ion the map so they want the glory for it ay it ;)

It' not true Clive, no one is trying to take away local identity, they are just trying to force a synnergistic effect by creating a new metropolitan area, or county, called Greater Birmingham which will consist of Brum, Solihull and the Black country plus a bit more. It has actually worked wonders for Greater Manchester and Greater London. A few arround Salford moan about it but those in better jobs because of it tend to appreciate it a bit more, and they are still from Salford, not Manchester so they are still not Mancs.

I would disagree there Ian because when you hear anything about Salford it's always referred to as Salford in Manchester just like Dudley will be referred to as Dudley in Birmingham it's Black Country they want to drop what about calling Birmingham greater Black Country.

Salford is in Manchester, in the same way that Dudley is in the West Midlands, all we are talking about is a name change to take advantage of Birmingham's higher profile. Living outside the UK I can promise you one thing, that pretty much everyone has heard of Birmingham but very few have heard of the West Midlands.

As for calling it it the Greater Black Country, in principle I have no objections but in practice it would be pointless as you would not be altering the area's profile in any way. Outside of the local area few have heard of the Black Country, Birmingham is internationally known but it could be bigger and built upon by increasing the catchment area, just in the same way as Manchester and London.

Yeah Dudley is in the West Mids but it aint in Birmingham which is what they want to put it under a big Brummie umbrella. Not sure how it would attract more business if someone has a good product does it matter what the manufacturers address is I just think these people who are trying to engineer this move are just plain ignorant to the areas history.I just think that these people think The Black Country is a degrading name.

I'm puzzled. What's a Brummie in a nutshell?

I think you are missing the point about attracting business by increasing the international profile and pooling local resources. Heck, the same applies to sporting events, for example, Manchester had the Commonwealth games a number of years ago, this lead to the building of the City of Manchester Stadium, now known as Eastlands. Without Manchester's high international profile funds would never have been provided to help regenerate the area and build the stadium as the games would not have been held there. Surely this is a clear benefit of the existence of Greater Manchester.

Can you imagine London applying for the Olympics if all London was the 8000 or so people in the actual city of London. London, or more correctly, Greater London won the games, do you believe that this could ever have happened if the area around the city was known as the South Eastlands? Never in a million years, it's the synergies brought about by pooling local resources that has built London to what it is today.

Yor argument seems to be based on 2 things, a lack of understanding of how important it is to have a high profile/more influence, pooling resources to achieve this, and your desire to not be called a Brummy, which no one other than Black Country folk are suggesting would happen.

Ian why don't you :168: your far too clever for this debate lol.As always you make very good points but surely you could market The Black Country as part of the Birmingham area yeah for sure to Brummies we will still be Yam Yam's and tbf there seems to be a greater knowledge of the Black Country nationwide these days.I'm sure the Black Country has a more interesting name than South Eastlands plus our area played a major part in the industrial revolution it's steeped in history surely this could be a selling point. For me it just seems to undermine the people that made the area great plus I'm a stubborn twat who is getting to old for change.Anyway I'm beginning to form an army to combat this move Green Villan and Clive have already enlisted we have our first target in our sights but were going to need a boat.
:159: :159: :25: :25: :25:

Lol, love it Andy. Heck, I'm all for promoting theBlack country as the industrial heart of the Midlands. Sure, let's build that brand too but surely it would have a far greater reach if itwas promoted as a prominent part of a Greater Birmingham area, in the same way that the west end is promoted as the theatre district of London or Notting Hill is promoted for it's markets and cultural diversity.

So would it mean it's no longer the West Midlands but Greater Birmingham but any change would surely be at a big cost to local councils changing signs and addresses etc.But the thing is who will benefit from all this I'm sure it won't be the average working family it's a no for me I'm afraid maybe younger ones can accept this but then again if it don't affect Xbox's the young uns wont give a shit.
