Sunday Chimes - The links

Jack Whatmough has spelt it out clearly, he wants to stay at Pompey as Fratton Park is where he sees his long-term future. A no-brainer isn't it? Tie him down to a long-term deal.

Hopefully a new contract will soon be confirmed - the ONLY reason I wouldn't tie Whatmough down to a two year contract (with an option?) would be concerns about his fitness after such serious injuries.

He does - touch wood - seem over them though and looked the part when he stepped in last season. With Whatmough, Christian Burgess and Matt Clarke as first choice central defensive options - and Tom Davies as cover - we're well stocked in central defence then.

Delighted we've tied Jack down, if he can stay injury free has a really good future ahead of him.

In Burgess, Clarke and Whatmough we've got three top quality central defenders - will we keep all of them this summer though? No doubt Cookie, and other managers', will be sniffing around...

Would it be too dramatic to say Jack Whatmough's latest injury is 'another devastating setback?' Personally I do not think it is... BUT the academy graduate WILL come back from this.

Whatmough has made it clear he doesn't wish to go anywhere and remains hopeful of being offered a new Pompey deal.

Whatmough is again a concern for Pompey. Having missed the majority of last season with a knee injury the sight of his limping away with another knee issue at Crewe was a HUGE worry!

Phew, all can now breath a sigh of relief as Whatmough looks like he only be out for 'a few weeks' and not months. No one will (of course) be more relieved than Whatmough himself!

A player of Jack Whatmough's ability isn't someone you could imagine being allowed to leave Pompey but you never know these days. Now fully fit he's looking to extend his Fratton stay.

We've got to worry for Whatmough now? I'm sure he'll come back from this latest setback but think he's probably one - two as a maximum - injuries away from being done in all honesty.

Three knee injuries in less than two and a half years isn't good.

Positively though he looked good this season, so here's hoping he'll do the same - without a setback - next season.

Inconsistent season continues with defeat at Scunthorpe, new boys, next week thanks Ash and ten years on..
