A year ago we were in disarray when Russell Martin left for Southampton and took assistant head coach Matt Gill, goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton, first-team performance analyst Ben Parker, head of rehabilitation Rhys Owen and Academy Manager Andy Goldie.

Ryan Manning also joined him after running down his contract here.

Michael Duff was appointed with Martin Paterson and Alan Sheehan joining him. England goalkeeping coach Martin Margetson rejoined us having previously worked here under Steve Cooper

Two other players out of contract were Joel Latibeaudiere who joined Coventry and Kyle Naughton who was retained for another season.

It turned out to be our poorest season since relegation where Michael Duff and Martin Paterson were fired after six months and Luke Williams took over. At one stage we came close to dicing with relegation, but as ever we look forward with optimism to next season and who we can bring in to boost the playing squad.

Fixtures were announced on Wed 26 June, and the Swans are away from home again for the start of the season, the fifteenth time in the last eighteen years.

Players return for pre-season training - Tuesday 2 July.

Championship season starts the weekend of 10 and 11 August, where the Swans are scheduled to make the long trip to Middlesbrough, early kick-off.

Carabao Cup first-round tie Swans v Gillingham of League Two, week commencing Aug 12.

Championship season finishes on Saturday 3 May 2025.

Derby County are taking Jerry Yates on a season long loan.
Swans have reportedly made a bid for South Korean K-League side Gwangju’s winger Eom Ji-sung.

England U-21 International Nathan Wood has gone to Southampton for a reported fee of £5m, only half of what Southampton offered last summer, which we turned down. Clever dealing. Sell-on clause to Middlesbrough further reduces the fee.
Southampton compensation settled for Russell Martin at £300k apparently.
Jerry Yates has gone to Derby on a season long loan, minus 9 goals from last season.
Jamal Lowe signs for Sheffield Wednesday, out of contract at Bournemouth, we couldn’t afford his wages, minus 9 goals from last season.
Who’s going to score those missing 18 goals this season?

Nathan Wood completes his transfer to Southampton. WoL reporting that the fee was £3m, an even worse deal than what we thought, minus a big chunk sell-on fee to Middlesbrough.

(FC Köln are based at their 50k capacity RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne and regularly sell out for matches. They were relegated to 2. Bundesliga on the final day of last season)

Sat July 27 Swansea v FK Vardar at Sportzendrum Friedberg 1pm local time
(FK Vardar of the Macedonian First League are based at their 36k capacity City Park Stadium in Skopje, North Macedonia and have won the First League eleven times. They finished in 10th position last season)

Sat Aug 3 Swansea v Rio Ave at Swansea.com Stadium 3pm
(Rio Ave Futebol Clube of the Portuguese Primeira Liga are based at their 13k capacity Estadi do Rio Ave.
They finished in 11th position last season.
Previous manager’s include Felix Mourinho (father of Jose), Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espírito Santo and ex-Swans manager Carlos Carvalhal.

Carabao Cup First Round - Burnley, Luton Town and the 13 Premier League clubs not participating in European competitions will enter the competition in Round Two, with the remaining seven clubs joining the competition in Round Three.
The Carabao Cup is regionalised in the early rounds with the draw split into a southern and northern section until Round Three.

How embarrassing, our Academy U-21’s lost to Baglan Dragons in the Nathaniel MG Cup today. Baglan play in Cymru South, the second tier of the Welsh League, and finished 10th out of the 16 teams in the southern section last season.
