What we know so far -
The Championship transfer window opened on Monday 27 July 2020. The transfer window closes Mon 5 Oct 2020 for international transfers and Fri 16 Oct 2020 for domestic transfers.
The 2020-21 season starts on Sat 12 Sept, in just under 6 weeks time, playing to empty stadiums unless anything changes.
Pre-season training starts in 3 weeks, a quick turnaround, with friendly matches already arranged.
Who will be left of the squad is anybody’s guess, with 12 players either returned to parent clubs, out of contract or released.
Freddie Woodman returned to Newcastle, hip injury, unknown if he’ll return.
Steven Benda was ineligible to play in the play-offs, but is under contract until June 2022
Erwin Mulder, out of contract, has already departed to Heerenveen.
Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer, Mike van der Hoorn, Kyle Naughton are also out of contract on 4 August, the date of the Championship play-off final.
Rodon still injured, under contract until 2022, possibly departing.
Loanee Wilmot was injured and has returned to Watford, unlikely to return with Watford relegated.
Montero and Baker-Richardson are gone.
Ayew contracted until 2021, but probably going as we can’t afford to keep him.
Roberts and Celina contracted until June 2022, but possible departures.
Loanees Gallagher, Brewster and Kalulu will return to their parent clubs.
Asoro 2022, Peterson 2022, MacKay 2021, and John 2021, were deemed not good enough this season and were sent out on loan, all could leave.
In a worse case scenario we could be left with only the following:
Benda, Guehi (loan), Cabango, Bidwell, Fulton, Grimes, Byers, Cullen, and Garrick, with free transfers, loans and U-23’s to make up the squad.
