Summer Transfer Rumour Thread

conversely they have dropped like a stone! lets be diplomatic and say its a score draw!
Oh indeed, I was thinking about progress in their minds as well as ourselves. Most of them were still in meltdown about losing the cup tie. I dread to think what the 5-3 and finishing below us in the league did to the poor souls

Fitness does seem to be an issue, he has been there years and not played that many games and consecutively. That may be part down to the ridiculous squad size at Ipswich as he has been rated when fit.

Apparently it was simply that he was in the shadow of Jon Nolan! :pinch:

would like to see us make a few signings where pace is a primary attribute. very concerned we've shed those kind of players (johnson, rogers, anderson, elbouzedi, eyoma) & not replaced them. much of our best football was built off sitting deep & countering quickly. will not work with the current crop. hope to be proven wrong.

No doubt why you are a big fan of Bramall.

Bishop seems exactly the type of profile of player we should be signing. I said when we picked up Maguire that the useful players from the bigger spending L1 teams are not bad pickups. These teams have underachieved but it hasn't always meant their players are bad - they signed them and started paying them decent wages for a reason, but we know with these clubs they haven't been managed particularly well or ended up with bloated squads and multiple managers. Bishop has a bit of potential, knows the league and will hopefully thrive in a new environment.

Do agree with Luke that Central Midfield is probably one of the less problematic positions based on personnel. I'm still not sure if Fiorini might also be involved in a front three? Or maybe as one of a couple of options as a 10 (I think based on Bishop link and Fiorini it may be slightly more of 4-2-3-1 this season than a functional 4-3-3?) Because if we have McGrandles, Edun, Bridcutt, Jones, Sanders and Fiorini, we're better set than some areas. If it's two of the first five in front of the back four and then Fiorini, Bishop behind the striker (and then options like Longdon for the other competitions) that perhaps makes sense?

pace as a primary attribute, skill as a non negotiable.

I barely post here anymore after being fairly active for quite a while but I still like to read as there are some really good posters with interesting insights and comments.

Your insistence Bramall isn’t very good is in every single thread and it doesn’t add anything besides bringing down a lad that hasn’t done much wrong. He’s a rotation left back that had some really good moments after a nervous debut without having any pre-season and barely any time to train with the Tuesday/Saturday situation of last season. He offers an attacking outlet from the left we’ve missed since Toffolo.

He’s nowhere near as bad as you make out, especially compared to some we’ve had in that position in the last 10 years.

The constant negativity to Bramall is dull, unhelpful, and unnecessary.

what is the point comparing to left backs over the past 10 years? we’re currently competing at a totally different level and I’m enjoying the ride as much as anyone else. however i’ve seen nothing to suggest bramhall is good enough to regularly play in a team which has ambitions of challenging at the top end of league one.

I think you need to come to terms with the fact we will rarely, if ever, be buying the finished article at this level. The model is clearly to buy low and sell high.

We’ve got a Manager who is a first class coach, and will improve players through working with them for a period on the training ground. It might not work 100% of the time but I’m willing to bet Bramhall will improve. I also seem to recall Edun getting hammered on here for his performances at left back early in the season (Rochdale away?), and yet his improvement in that position has been remarkable.

Mapp hasn’t let us down yet, maybe give him, and Bramhall, a little bit of respect? We’re called ‘supporters’ for a reason.
