clearly sean needs to take a look at him but of all the new players, he hasnt really shown much in the games so far.
some comments from Stade Rennais forum that dont suggest we have a diamond here. (sorry long post)
- A divisive player, but one who never hid and ended on a high note. We can at least give him credit for that, even if I think it was time to turn the page for him and for us. And good for him if he proves us wrong.
- The club hasn't communicated yet, but it's done... good luck to him and thank you, despite everything, he will never have cheated.
- good luck Nono, he's not the center forward who will leave me with the most memories in terms of football (on the other hand in terms of exchanges here...), but he deserves to be seen in a team that rotates and that will know how to highlight his qualities.
- More than 30 million for a player we saw for 3 years and whose strengths we still have trouble naming, it's an extremely good sale.
- I have long looked for what all the successive coaches found in him at Rennes or in the youth team, I still can't see anything other than a certain efficiency in the last 20 meters when he had time to use his right foot.
-
His individual abilities (lack of explosiveness, weak in duels, poor heading, back-to-goal play often very thwarted by strong DCs, low offensive pressure) have never really led to thinking that he could succeed in another organization and with another team.
In fact, those who predict success for him in another context are much more in the bet than those who think that his individual characteristics are a hindrance to this center forward position in the long term in a first-tier team of a major championship.
We will see. But all this is not denial. It must be repeated once again but this is an opinion (among others) of supporters who saw him play for 3 seasons at SRFC. It is not because we do not like him, it is not a whim.
It is an opinion on the player.
And personally I wish him neither the best nor the worst. I have always been quite insensitive to what this player has done for us, but I have often wished that a coach would try other solutions than putting him as a starting center forward.
The other thing is that I admire a team that decides to put 30 million on a player who has scored around ten goals in open play per season for a mid-table Ligue 1 club and we still don't know if he can hold a starting 9 position in a club playing in Europe!
We also don't know if he can be a supporting striker or slightly wide. He has far too little experience in these roles to be able to judge. So it's good that clubs like Nottingham can still put such sums on a player with so much uncertainty. Good for us.
- The strong points you mention, I saw almost none.
Possibly the reading of the game where he manages, but to say strong point, no. He has his state of mind on his side and it's better than nothing. But hey for this price, it's crazy.
More positive -
I saw a striker with good finishing, good passing and reading of the game, capable of good runs, fast enough in the first few meters to make a difference. I also saw a player who was difficult to find (by his fault or that of the team, it will remain unknown), not good with his head and light in physical duels. A profile of a support striker, which he could be with Chris Wood perhaps?
