Summer 2020 Transfer Window

We are being linked with Dean Henderson.

He has probably been the best English GK this season.

Wouldn't mind that. Him and Aaron's would be a good start for getting in English blood.

I’d be shocked if United sold him, he would need to push for the transfer.

Looks like we’re linked with a pair of Turkish keepers as well. Interesting to see who’s coming in. How crucial to get this right! It’s nearly 8 years since Lloris was signed on the final day of the transfer window. The gk situation wasn’t that badly managed back then, though our starting point was an increasingly error prone Gomes from whom an over the hill Friedel was brought in to take over the gloves.

Chavs will sign Ziyech come summer. I want us to do the same and sign 2 targets well before the season ends.

We won’t do this, we will continue to do the majority of our business late in the window.

Top ten buys you could not make it up really how bad most of these have been overall / generally ...yes you can make a case for a few of them and remember the differential in price between when we bought them and todays inflated market.... ....who are our scouts, arse supporters?

Ndombele 45 m
Sanchez 36 m
Sissoko 31.5 m
Soldado 27 m
Lamela 27 m
Son 27 m
Moura 25.5 m
Aurier 22.5 m
Bent 22 m
Jannsen 20 m

Hopefully a majority is more than 2. I’m thinking 5-7 would be a suitable range if enough deadwood makes way for them.

Admittedly, Alli cost a fraction of what we paid for the others. Still, three seasons ago he was hot property, now his decline is so evident no one is interested.

Putting N'dombele on that list is disingenuous at best; let's not forget, Jose has had as much to do with pushing him backwards as anyone else by playing him when he was still injured and not properly fit.

Son has been magnificant for us and is now worth at least £50-60 mill (the sum we allegedly turned down last summer for him).

I have the highest confidence in our new scouting team/set-up (in place the last 18-24 months now), and wouldn't/couldn't beat up on any of the acquisitions they've led so far.

But in the meantime, cross your fingers Villa get relegated and we're still on great terms with JB and we still might get Grealish in the summer.

It's Norwich, Villa and Bournemouth that will give us the richest pickings - Aarons, Godfrey, Cantwell, Ake, Brooks, Grealish etc.

West Ham probably offer the most satisfaction though !!!

Have to agree that there are quite a few horror stories amongst these, most notably Soldado, Lamela, Bent and Janssen. Only Liverpool however nearly always get it right, there success rate in the market in recent years has been as good as their results. As for the rest of the above;
Ndomebele - Was clearly a Poch influenced signing, and Poch never had the greatest of records in the market. Since Poch's departure it's been questionable whether Ndombele actually wants to play for Spurs. He'll either prove to be a good signing which he is well capable of, or be one of the most expensive flops of all time. I lean toward the latter.
Sissoko - Like Lamela, an end of window panic signing for whom we paid over the odds. Unlike Lamela, he has in fact been a good signing for us.
Sanchez - The Club seem determined to let him develop to his full potential, and whilst he is erratic, he is also high potential, Sanchez and Tanganga may well be viewed as the new Alderweireld and Verttonghen in less time than many may currently think.
Son - Worth 80mil in todays market, unquestionably one of Spurs top five signings in the Premiership era.
Moura - Probably his hat trick in the CL semi final was worth the transfer fee.
Aurier - Aurier is Aurier, dreadful one week, a useful attacking FB the next week. Never has been or never will be a twenty plus million defender, but he's had his moments for us.

I think the bigger question is about the transfer strategy itself. Sometimes, you need to buy a Naugthon to get a Walker. To get an Eriksen, you need to buy a Chadli.

Whilst we all want quality over quantity, we also know that there are no guarantees. Of our current set of signings, who is the Toby or Jan and who is the Dawson or Kaboul? My current assumption is that Gio, Ndombele, Bergwijn, Gedson, Sessegnon etc are all good signings. We've been here before though !!!
