Summer 2020 Transfer Window

KWP hardly played, so the impact of selling him is negligible. We are effectively playing with 1 RB on the roster, and we seem to have a better option off the bench in Tanganga.

This means we are replacing only 1 RB, and a really poor one. If you consider the fact that his injury record is just as poor as his footballing brain and his self destruct mechanism is on Adebayor level - we should take any offer we have and run for the hills.

One quality RB this summer is a must, and should be enough until the following window.

With Tanganga, let's see what happens when Davies is back. Does Jose have him as Toby's partner and retain Aurier? Does Aurier make way for Tanganga? Does Tanganga get rested to protect him from over exposure too early?

I've only seen Japhet at RB in the Boro match and he was very good but still didn't look like a natural RB to me. Far better equipped than when we watched Sanchez play there though.

I still prefer having 2 specialist RB's and allowing Japhet to focus on his primary trade.

We defibately need two specialist right backs . I long since stopped wondering why we think we can put anybody at full back . I think it dawned on most people when Son played at left back against the Chavs . Was Mourinho in charge for them then ? Boy did they target him .

The goalkeeper position is getting desperate . Hugo showed against Saints a lot of his frailties . Parrying shots straight to the opposition , not coming out for the ball . Two years ago he would have caught that shot , and he was known as a sweeper keeper . .
The back up keepers don’t bear thinking about either .
Striker , two full backs , at least one centre back , a quality DM ,
Not much to ask for !

Tanganga is 2 full backs, a CB and probably a DM !!

I am now convinced of it; I cannot ever recall him investing so much faith in a manager/coach and getting so emotionally entwined with his behaviour and missives.

Levy allows his subordinates to get on with the job.

Contrary to general opinion he does not micro-manage, but that also doesn't mean he doesn't pay attention to detail, typically he works very long hours; in early, leaves late - but despite his work ethic, I can't help but feel that because of our run in the CL and the recent history of remarkable Top 4 finishes (unparalleled in our PL era) that he ignored Poch's cryptic and at times nonsensical utterances., which as you know were to me great big warning alarms going off.

Letting Poch keep contract rebels was to me (and I said it at the time and argued this here) foolhardly and counter productive.
Working long hours and getting things wrong are a sign of a poor manager. The best managers do very little and go home early.

One of the things I disliked immensely under Poch. We were a bunch of 'jacks of all trades'. His favourite term was "can play as".

Really disappointed that we weren't able to sign a striker in Jan TW. We can definitively say we tried?... a real plus under Jose, if so.

And that could end up being his , and our , problem . We have been trading on that sort of player for too long. We need out and out full backs and specialist centre backs . No more Sissoko, Foyth , Dier, Sanchez , Tanganga , or Uncle Tom Cobley and all , filling in at full back . Let’s get our team / squad sorted out

The striker was a big miss, one that I feel will come back and bite us , especially in the CL when Son and Moura will be eaten by specialist defenders . We may be able to get away with it in the league or cup though , with a bit of luck .

It's an interesting point. It has been said the true greats could play anywhere.

You've been working for the wrong bosses.

The trick to being a boss is getting more right than you do wrong; bosses that don't get anything wrong, are bosses that don't make decisions and don't take chances.

Leadership is leading from the front.

Perhaps a little generalised. Good managers bring their staff up to a level where the manager can delegate rather than doing it all themselves. Hence having to work long hours regularly is a sign of weakness.

Of course you have to lead from the front and maintain a presence and command respect. The mind and body performs better when fresh, working long hours will lower performance.

There are times when the situation dictates a longer shift but it should be the exception not the norm. There are times when the staff or under management are too weak, but that situation needs to be put right either by training initially with a fair period to improve or getting rid if they dont respond.

My take on this topic is.....

The trick to being a good boss is to get your staff to get more right than wrong and be there for advice and guidance and support when they need it.

Only lead from the front when you set their goals or when really necessary to ensure the ship continues in the right direction. .

Making the staff feel valued and getting them performing by delegation is key.

A boss who leads from the front all the time and dictates actually demotivates staff, and actually makes them feel not trustworthy. Do not underestimate what a good bunch of staff can achieve.

Having said that a boss must recruit the right people in the first place, and ensure they fit the initial roles necessary but have the ability to evolve and develop and become more flexible.

Develop your staff in this way and yes until times of crises you can sit back and relax. They will come to you when they need you as you will have their respect.

Basically what I said.

In the context of Levy he makes mistakes and does lots of hours. He needs somebody to tutor him but is probably past that now.
