Summer 2018 Transfers

Give him a new deal and then next summer the offers will come in and it will be bye bye. I like Thompson but he is injury prone like Tettey. I just worry we will be low on defensive midfielders of Godfrey's quality if Thompson is out.

Interesting that we had two academy goalkeepers in the training session today with the first team. Oxborough (who I think will be a future number 1 - he is a lot like Gunn) and young McCracken. Also do we not have a GK coach as they were being trained by the under 18 GK coach?

I asked Paddy about the squad numbers and if they are correct. He said that they are probably the numbers that will be given to the players give or take a couple. If that is correct then we still have no GK with number 1?

Martin is on the way out on loan :clap::clap:.

DF said:

Russell is not a player who can sometimes be in the team and sometimes not he needs to be playing.'

Preferably not for us!

Having done a Whittaker last season, I cant imagine another club picking up all his wages during a loan.

Same pattern continues :
Too many loans out.
Too many second rate germans in.
Not being able to release expensive wages players not required here.

Loans out of experienced players (mostly those we don't want) - to save wages.

Loans of youngsters - to gain experience if they are not good enough for the first team now

Are you "knocking" the signings of Trybull, Zimmermann, ...its not Farke's fault that he has to look for bargains....after all the previous manager (with the boards help) wasted £50m

Godfrey to be offered a new contract and I guess he will be loaned out again.

Interesting to see what happens re Godfrey - keep in the first team squad because he can play as DM and as a CB?

Thompson
He's playing at the moment and doing well.

Hasn’t Martin effect off on loan yet ? I can’t see any others coming in but Martin , Olivera , Sicknote Jarvis and McFlap need to go

Jarvis will remain. McGovern will remain.

Oli will go even if it is the last minute thing. Martin will go on loan.

I also think Cantwell will be moved out on loan too.

I would like to see Cantwell stay and play for us . Why are our young players always deemed ‘unready’ when other teams play their youngsters ?

because they cannot live up to the goal scoring achievements of Jerome, Srbeny and Nelson or solid defending of Martin

With Wildschut going out on loan DF and media seemed to be saying that we would bring in another winger. Will it be a loan winger we get?

DF`s Take so far on Ben Godfrey.

Daniel Farke must now weigh up whether that is this coming season in the Championship or down the line, but the head coach revealed yesterday on the final day of City’s German tour that Godfrey is ‘an important part of my plans’.
The 20-year-old is being touted with a new Carrow Road deal in some quarters, after an eye-catching season-long loan stint at Shrewsbury Town.
But the youngster’s work in City colours this summer appears to be more impressive for Farke, as he decides the next step.
“Yes, we have a similar decision to make perhaps this summer but pre-season was so important for him,” said the head coach. “It is one thing to go away and have a good season on loan in League One but another to be involved to the same degree in the Championship.

“He had to show himself full of self confidence and competitive in pre-season and I think he has shown this.
“It was important for me to see him in different positions. He had one or two good performances in the holding midfielder positions, which perhaps is the position we associate him with, but I was also pretty, pretty pleased with him in the central defensive position against FC Union Berlin.
“He played 90 minutes at centre back and it is vital he can play in this position because physically he can win his battles in the air, he is cool with the ball at his feet and competitive in the duels. He is always awake in tactical things.

“I think it is a position that could suit him in our squad.”
Godfey was linked with the likes of West Brom and Crystal Palace earlier this summer, although there is believed to have been no firm interest in the former York trainee.
The powerhouse is under contract at City until at least 2021, after signing a new longer term deal 12 months ago, but Farke admits the battle for defensive midfield places is a hot spot in his current roster.
“Let’s be honest, the holding midfielder in our squad there is a lot of competition, with Tom Trybull, Moritz Leitner, Alex Tettey, Mario Vrancic, when he is back, Louis Thompson,” said Farke.

“For me, it is impressive that he can show he can play in the central defence or as a three. Ben is important for my plans.”

I don't see Vrancic as a holding midfielder. Is DF saying this to convince Godfrey to sign a new deal? Saying that it is one thing to go to league 1 on loan and do well and another to play in the championship --- so what is the point in a league 1 loan then? The guy is quality and for me better than Steipermann, Vrancic and on par with Thompson as holding midfielders. The other thing is he is fit not had a big injury in his career like Thompson, Trybull, Tettey, Vrancic.
