Summer 2017 Transfer Window

Think we need a DM because we can't rely on Jedi being there every game. So far Gardner hasn't shown he's good enough.

RHM can fill a winger slot. Maybe we need one more.

Pretty sure we can keep Kodjia. We'd place a high price on his head.

Jedi is old and isn't getting less injury prone.

I think those 4 positions are exactly what we need.

My biggest concern is between the posts. If we'd had a decent goalkeeper, we'd be in the top half. Borrowing a child off Utd was a crazy idea unless there was nobody else available.

I;d recon on buying a goalkeeper, a centre back, a defensive midfielder, two central midfielders and a wide forward. ...
.

What you've suggested there is nuts and exactly what we do not need, it's too many new faces. In what way shape or form do we need 3 more center mids?

Goalkeeper? Absolutely
Center back? Absolutely
Center mid or defensive mid? No, ranks as number 4 on my list as the reality is unless it's a significant improvement it's a waste of money.
Winger? Yes, and only because Grealish isn't a wide player and to rely on Green and Adomah for an entire season is a recipe for disaster.

We've the bones of a decent side but it needs time to click and for everyone to get used to each other. There is a player in Conor Hourihane and it drives me demented when he's immediately written off after 2 or 3 games, and people wonder why some players struggle to play for us.

Things don't change over night or after a summer of major spending.

What I have suggested is nuts even thoigh you agree with most of it? How is relying on Green and Adomah for a full season inviting disaster whereas relying on Jedinak is perfectly ok?

As for central midfielders we have recenty played Bacuna and Gardner in there. We don't need replacements?

Hourihane is not an engine room midfielder. His tackling is about on a par with Grealish's. He is either an attacking midfielder - which he appears to be very good at - or is not in the team.

If we go into next season with our current midfield we will not get promoted. If you really don't think we need reinforcements take a look at the bench we name against Huddersfield. Bruce will struggle to name a balanced starting 11, he won't even get as far as giving himself options to call on if things go a bit pear shaped.

I would expect any incoming player to be a potential first choice. If we go through next season with Jedinak and Lansbury on the bench then the chances are that we will have pissed the league.

Think you're wrong on what type of player Hourihane is Chastitty. According to Who Scored.com Hourihane has averaged 3.2 successful tackles a game which puts him third best in the league (out of all players) he averages 2.4 successful interceptions a game which puts him 16th overall but the highest placed midfielder. To suggest he's an out and out attacking midfielder is wrong - at Barnsley he was very much box-to-box.

That said, he would be wasted if curtailed to sit in Jedinak's position all game we do need another specialist defensive midfielder.

A first choice GK is desperately needed, along with a first choice CB as well. In addition to that, we need another DM because Jedinak simply won't last a full season. Up front we're probably ok, and probably ok out wide too. The LB slot is covered, and so is RB if De Laet comes back ok. Midfield is also probably ok.

OK then, so a GK, CB and DM, and we're probably ok, Bruce will try and shift quite a few players out, and it'll be interesting to see if he's going to include Sanchez and Gil in his plans going forward, I'd like to keep both as they add a decent quality (for the championship) depth to the squad.

I'm not sure if Grealish will stay another season, he's deservedly slipping down the pecking order now.

I can only judge him by what I have seen of him in a Villa shirt. The guy is 5ft 11 yet weighs less than 10 stone. He has not shown any aptitude in a claret abd blue shirt for being a box to box midfielder as you put it nor does he look like he would be one. Out of interest, his personal page on that site shows a slighty different story. The numbers you quote are for what he did at Barnsley. There are separate league figues, presumably for his fledgling Villa career of 1.6 tackles per game and 0,4 interceptions.

I'll go with the player I have seen rather than the one some stats website implies he might be. He would get eaten alive in Jedinaks position.

Goalkeeper and centre back without a doubt.

The goalkeeper must be late 20s or early 30s and experienced.

The goalkeeping area is the one spot we are in desperate need of strengthening
To Pride I say, why on earth would Kalinic leave a team that are playing European football on a regular basis, for a team languishing in the mid-table of the second league.
Also, since his move to his present team, he has increased his International appearance levels and doubled his transfer worth.
Even so, he is not what anyone could call an experienced player.
We have a young keeper with masses of potential, in Gollini, who is out on loan, gathering experience until the summer of 2018.
We really do need an experienced keeper, who is at an age where he needs to be playing but, could be his present clubs number two or, even number three choice.
My suggestions would be either, West Bromwich Albion's Boaz Myhill or, Chelsea's Asmir Begovic.
I don't think Jed Steer will ever be good enough to be the first choice for a club higher than the first division but, I would be willing to give him next season, playing cup games to prove himself.

Not played a minute for Atalanta so far - tbf I guess there's worse places to be paid shedloads to watch games than Italy.

I don't think he'll be coming back to be honest . Didn't want to be here and he's really not very good . Jed Steer will never make it either .

Travelling to the other extreme, I think we are going to need another striker.
Kozak and Hepburn-Murphy out of contract in the summer, while Agbonlahor is about as useful as a wicker soup bowl and McCormack unlikely to ever be played in a Villa shirt again.
The ideal addition would be Jordan Rhodes, who is very similar to Scot Hogan, in that he is clever in his movement and can lay on assists as well as score.
Should Rhodes be impossible to get, then another very similar type of player is, Lee Gregory of Millwall, either would give us, along with young Keenan Davis, good coverage for injuries and absences due to international tournaments, such as the African Cup of Nations.

I thought Hepburn-Murphy had signed a new contract?
