Summer 2017 Transfer Window

Pride of Lions

I am now official
Apologies if there already is one - I couldn't see it.

However, remember Lovre Kalinic the Croatian goalkeeper the governing bodies stopped us from signing last season?

Well, there are possibilities we could fiinally get our man. Since then he has moved to Genk who dumped Spuds out of the Europa League. He has also played three times for Croatia this season, so he should qualify.

Everton and West Sham have been looking at him but it's believed they both have other targets now, which could leave the path open for us to get our man.

A belated welcome back Pride. Yep needs to be the first position we fill, along with another defensive midfielder (we rely to heavily on Jedinak) and another centre half. Be interesting to see if we shift some of our loanees out the door to balance the books.

I agree with all this but I'd add a right winger to the mix, though not as an immediate need.

This morning, we have a report of a possible belated replacement for Idrissa Gueye. His name? Chiekh N'Doye currently in the last few months of his contract with Angers in France. He's 30 years old, but he could come in on a 'free'.

Comments?........

I don't know anything about N'Doye or Lovre but we definitely need a keeper and a defensive midfielder.

Do you think that goalkeeper is a Lovre, not a fighter?

If it doesn't work out at least there will be 50 ways for him to leave.

:1:

We need a keeper, no question.

A centre mid to take the pressure of Jedinak is also a must, as well as another centre-back and a decent winger.

Probably only 4-5 players needed at the most. Much of the major surgery has surely been done now, too much radical change will just yield the same results as we've seen this season.

As mentioned on another thread, I'd be happy to see Carlos Sanchez given a go at this level. I think he'd slot right in when Jedinak inevitably gets crocked, and he's also been playing as part of a back three for Fiorentina this season.

Wyness said the plan is one team to get us up, rebuild to keep us up and another to kick on .

Plan A has gone out the window because we are now rebuilding to get up .

A permanent keeper is a must , the squad is far too big now especially if the loan players come back . Busy summer off loading about 8 players , some are out of contract I know but look at the first team squad on AVFC.co.uk and there are 30 players

The worst thing we could do in the summer is have a major overhaul of the squad. 4 or 5 new signings should be the maximum, we need to make clever signings not just throw money around for the sake of it like we have this season

Ex-Flamenco goalkeeper Bruno is now available as a free agent after he was released on parole following his conviction for having his girlfriend murdered and fed to dogs so that he wouldn't have to pay child support.

He served 7 years of a 22 year sentence so he's obviously fully rehabilitated.

No major upheaval is all I ask for this summer. 3 maybe 4 signings and no more.

GK and CB are key plus another wide player anything else is pointless unless it's a dramatic improvement.

I'd agree with what most have said (except BodyButter :17: )

We need quality rather than quantity.

A top keeper should be the priority. After that, like JPA said, another midfielder to cover Jedinak.

Maybe one or 2 more where needs be, but we need to build a team rather starting from scratch every window.

Largely agree with the last few posts, Sanchez could be very useful if he doesn't try any fancy forward passes, not his strength. However I hope this summer is also used to finally get rid of the rest of the 'squad' players, like numbers 11 & 4 to start with.

Totally agree on the quality over quantity thing. In far too many transfer Windows we've signed loads of cheap players instead of spending the money we had on a few higher quality guys. If we had 20m I'd rather we'd bought 2 really good players who would improve us as opposed to 10 players of who are a gamble.

What isabsolutely killing us is that we have been through 2 very active windows (total of 17 players in) and still have glaring weaknesses in the team. We need a goalkeeper, a commanding centre back and more that one central midfielder. Anything less and we are taking a big risk with a season in which we absolutely cannot afford to fail.

I'd like to use the rest of this season to see if any aspiring u-23s really have the wherewithal to make it. Green is likely and a potential first choice, others may well be capable of filling the squad out. Bree also should be given opportunity to show that he can do for Villa what he was previously doing for Barnsley.

I;d recon on buying a goalkeeper, a centre back, a defensive midfielder, two central midfielders and a wide forward. Even that assues that we will be ok with Steer as second choice gk and Watson or Sarkic as third choice.

5 or 6 players in is actually a fairly manic transfer window, I guess by our recent standards it just doesn't sound like it at the moment.

There will also be a fair exodus. I would guess that most of the current senior loanees will not return with the possible exception of Tshibola and as a very long shot, Gil. It is hard to see Gollini, Sanchez, Cissokho or Veretout ever pulling on a Villa shirt again.

Johnstone, Bunn and Kozak will leave anyway, Amavi regrettably could be off, Elphick, Gardner and McCormick may well be shown the door if not as permanent transfers then as loans.

Sanchez doesn't want to come back, he's trying to secure a contract at Fiorentina.

Ruddy, John terry and routlege would do me.

Reckon the Leicester squad will come apart this summer, whether they stay up or not. Could put in a bid for Schmeichel. His dad would put in a good word for us.

It all depends on whether we keep the players we've got doesn't it.

Will there be more departures?

I've said before that buying a new team every season has to stop but we need to know who other teams are after.

If we keep the team we have then it's 3 or 4 players for me:

GK
CB
DCM
RW

If any of our players out on loan can fill these positions then i'm all for letting them have a go in the Championship.

Is there a chance we'd lose Kodjia?

.

What you've suggested there is nuts and exactly what we do not need, it's too many new faces. In what way shape or form do we need 3 more center mids?

Goalkeeper? Absolutely
Center back? Absolutely
Center mid or defensive mid? No, ranks as number 4 on my list as the reality is unless it's a significant improvement it's a waste of money.
Winger? Yes, and only because Grealish isn't a wide player and to rely on Green and Adomah for an entire season is a recipe for disaster.

We've the bones of a decent side but it needs time to click and for everyone to get used to each other. There is a player in Conor Hourihane and it drives me demented when he's immediately written off after 2 or 3 games, and people wonder why some players struggle to play for us.

Things don't change over night or after a summer of major spending.
