sugar dependence is no laughing matter. Many experts often liken sugar addiction to that of hard drugs.

According to Dr. Frank Lipman, founder of Eleven Eleven Wellness Center, "over time our brains actually become addicted to the natural opioids that are triggered by sugar consumption".

Basically, it's pretty hard to kick the habit.

And it's not just extreme sugar nuts who should watch their consumption. The British Heart Foundation state that "in a single day the average person in the UK consumes 13 teaspoons of sugar with some people consuming up to 46 teaspoons.

Nice to see the media finally catching up!

Nah no such thing,,,,,just gotta erm have a cuppa tay 4 sugars and some chocolate :37:

It's frightening just how much sugar one takes.

I don't take sugar directly, ie not in tea, coffee, sprinkled on cereals, sweets etc, but I can imagine I still take in more than enough indirectly. It's scandalous!

I am currently going Cold Turkey on my Sugar intake.

I was brought up with a great diet in terms of vegetables and fruit, but every meal ended in a sweet. It's been 8 days now without, and I am still having withdrawal symptoms.

I am treating it the same as if I were giving up cigarettes. Every time I see a cake I remind myself that I sometimes look at smokers and wonder why they can't quit. I have always told myself I would be strong enough to stop, if I had ever smoked, so I'm fighting my sugar fix.

Hopefully one day I will just stop craving it.

The government could help this massively, not with a sugar tax but with the labeling. Every product should have the same symbol on it showing how many teaspoons of sugar are in the product.

You can guarantee all food manufacturers would do it in their little corporate pants and reduce massively the amount used to get their customers addicted to their fodder.
