Stop me buying a new TV

Miserable Sod
Here is the situation. I have a perfectly good TV. It's a 40" Samsung LED, Full HD model. It does a great job.

However, I keep trying to persuade myself that I need a newer, bigger model.

Pros to buying a new one

I can get an even bigger one
It will be Smart
It will be 3d
It will be 4k

Cons to buying a new one

The old one is big enough
I have a chromecast which makes it smart
I hate 3d, because it's a gimick
DO I really NEED 4k?
What do I do with the old one?

I can afford to buy a new one, but part of me is a bit depressed that I even want to. This consumer Society can get silly at times.

So, fire away with the wisdom.

You could use Martin money savers mantra: Skint: Do I need it, can I afford it. Not skint: Will I use it, do I need it. Something like that.

What do you do with the old TV?. Donate it to a worthwhile cause

That's not helping, kefkat. Look at the title of the thread. Stop me!!!!

:13: :13: :13: :13: :13:

I will use it, as I do watch TV regularly, and use it with a Computer as well.

Do I need it? Nope. When has that ever stopped us buying crap?

You have to want to not buy it. You will feel miserable for a bit. That's what we do if we go against our wants.

I can't stop you. I haven't got that much power. Find something else to distract you so you aren't constantly thinking about it.

That's the best I can do, atm

Samsung is close to the name Samson.

Samson is in the bible.

You don't believe in the bible.

Therefore I don't believe you will want a TV so obviously referenced in the bible.

My existing one is a Samsung. I was thinking of buying an LG. Are you saying this is a sign I should change it?

IF you do buy one i will have the old one

I should have seen that coming, and didn't. I feel so silly.

I should have mentioned, there is a scratch on the screen. You can't see it when the TV is on, but it shows when it's off. Does that make it less desirable?

Wait for 6 weeks. If after that you still feel you have to change them do so and donate the old one to local charity of your choice. I say local because smaller charities don't take as much out as the big ones.

Not in the slightest. My TV is fine when its on but when you turn it off you can see hand prints from where my son has smothered his food on it

It's funny you should say that. I started looking about 8 weeks ago and have deliberately waited. I still want it. This was my last chance to resist!!!!

It's a common sense approach, that can work. I usually do it now, rather than impulse buy. Cheers.

Our Lord God (LG) works in mysterious ways.

That's it. You've stopped me. Uuuuggghhhhh. There is no way I can have that in my house now!!

Mind you, the Panasonic one is nice as well (sort that one out)!!!!!

My effort: Bob, don't buy a new TV, you will not appreciate the new one after the novelty has worn off and your existing ine does what you want it to.

Or: If you do I'm telling on you!

LOL. Your first argument I have told myself time and time again, and it is completely true. In a weeks time, all the excitement will be forgotten and life will continue as usual. It is certainly the strongest motivator for me even questioning buying one.

In the past, I would have bought it by now. Am I growing up? If so, I don't like it.

On the latter - tell who? My Mum? :5: :5:

Panason (or Son of Pan) was one of the lesser known prophets from the Old Testament. He had a particular aversion to self-abuse wishing death on all those that practiced it. He was noted for his Blue and White robes and traveled every road to the very end never being seen without his KROss.

Your choice mate.

LOL. Fear will hate you for this. You're smarter than him!!!!!

I think you should go out and get that new TV.(there you go problem solved, you never agree with anything I say)
