Stephen Fry On Atheism

The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
I've steered clear of religious threads for a while, but this did make me smile.

LOL... yes, sorry Skeggy, should have said it was you who posted it on Facebook.

Then again, I'm hurt and devastated you didn't do it here!

So after all the years mankind has existed we still can't prove if there is or is not a God, so i am sticking to the belief of the Archons that am invisible to mankind and control and use us like batteries for energy when they cause wars and grief, i know this is more real cos nobody can prove me wrong cos ya cor see em ha suckerz!

Gay Byrne has chewed in and spat out countless interviewees over the years and I cannot imagine for one split second that he was in any way discomfited by Mr Fry's comments. For Gay, it has always been about making the programme interesting. If it's controversial, so much the better. He is a truly legendary broadcaster.
Gay Byrne is, after all, the man who introduced "sex" to Ireland, courtesy of "The Late, Late Show" which is now one of the longest running TV shows ever. "The Bishop and the nightie scandal" is one such epoch-making incident in that show's fabled history. (Very tame, in reality, but it did cause ripples at the time and Mr Byrne was denounced from numerous pulpits.)
Gay, who turned 80 last year, has now retired, well sort of, and "The Meaning of Life" is just a little money-spinner. He enjoys life in his home in Howth, a very pleasant peninsula on the outskirts of Dublin, and can often be seem zooming around on his Harley-Davidson.
Gay may have looked shocked but I doubt that he was. That would have been for the benefit of the cameras.
Bear in mind that this programme will be on Irish television at 10.30pm tomorrow night and I think I'm right in saying that RTE put the clip up on youtube. They are obviously trying to lure the punters into staying up to watch.

There are many answers to what Stephen Fry said. At least I can give some. I agree with BBJ

Hate it when Christians come into these threads to persecute us atheists!!!

To be fair BBJ, he also introduced boyzone to the world, he has much to answer for.

Ah yes, Easter, when Jesus was resurrected and gave out chocolate and bunnies...

Apparently.

That isn't actually a dig at the bible or Jesus, just how these things become ridiculously commercialised by the money makers.

Totally agrees JF. I think you would find the majority of Christians would too

He also gave Boyzone their TV debut.

I used to watch his show when I was in Londonderry as BBJ says the man is a legend.

Back to the clip and what Fry said.....

Am I missing something, but is he saying that if there was no god, there wouldn't be insects eating the eyes out of young children from inside?

I mean, no god, no insects?...... just how far do you take it?

I think that may have been the one and only occasion when Uncle Gaybo was truly shocked!
