Vital Champions League
Never been so torn. There are still plenty of games left and as the wee man would say, there will be plenty of twists a turns. However, it’s hard to watch how bad we were against a direct rival and not fear this team and manager don’t have what it takes.

Not a Dyche moan thread, just what’s the gut feel?

It's great one week and dire the next

Basically, we look fine until there is a goal.

If the first goal is ours, we generally look very good- if anything maybe even better than a Nuno team at the end points of games

If the first goal goes against us, we look fucked and generally play terribly

The day we appointed Ange, I said to everyone at work (who’s interested in football)
‘ well that’s us relegated’
Frankly given everything that’s gone wrong so far this season ( and the end of last) I’m amazed we’re not rock bottom.
We have had 2 attempts to drag other teams in Fulham/Bournemouth a while ago and Palace /Leeds this week.
We took neither.
We’re relying on West Ham to be really shit for the rest of the season.
They haven’t and won’t be, going forward.
We seemingly can’t string together a few wins, we can’t score goals, they can and do , they will overtake us.
They would have already if not for a tight offside call.
We’re down.

We aren't a good side that's the top and bottom of it, we haven't got a regular goal scorer and it's killing us. We have bought potential and we will see if the decision is going to cost us. Could go either way I think.

I am still pretty confident. Spuds have pretty much lost and now Romero is out, possibly for 3 matches.

Palace are deep in the shit and JSL isn’t going to be much of a saviour.

Leeds should survive but we could be level with them next game.

Wet Spam are going to continue to struggle.

The worrying thing for me is not that we can't play well under Dyche.
We're perfectly capable of winning any match.
Its that when it really matters is when the players seem to let us down the hardest.
We seemingly can’t put back to back victories together in the league.
Teams that can , put points pressure on those around them.

Spurs won’t go down, they just won’t.
If JSL scores just 3 or 4 goals, that might be enough for Palace.
Leeds home form and goal scoring will keep them up.
West Ham aren’t struggling, they’re putting in decent performances and putting back to back results together.

To be fair, Lucca has scored half as many PL goals in 20 mins as Jesus has in 1400, so hopefully there is every chance of him getting 4-5 in his time here

But how the fuck aren't we a good side?
We have a great midfield and a great defence.

On top of that, we spent £200m in the Summer.

You could spend that completely at random using a spinny wheel to buy players at market value and end up with a better overall spend and a team that can compete.

Do we ? Or do we just think we do.
Our defence is fine if the rest of the team is in a low mid block in front of them protecting them, but dare to play front foot football like Ange and they fall apart.
Midfield ? How many goals? Does CHO flatter to deceive?
Let’s not get started on strikers and new signings.

Big if with JSL. And they need more than that given their weakened defence and current form.

Spuds shouldn’t go down. But they are where they are and they are in the shit. Leeds are in the same situation. They are in decent form recently but they are still in it. The big ‘if’ for Leeds is going to be DCL. Can they keep him fit and scoring..?

Wet Spam’s ‘decent performances’ have only got them a point closer to us. No guarantee they win today and next up for them is Man Ure.

Do we have a better side than Leeds?

Lucca should start against Wolves IMO, purely because, however glib this might sound, endless crosses up to a big man seems to be the only way Dyche knows how to score.

Much as I despair about the current situation, I currently feel we will just about stay up.

But if we lose or even draw to Wolves on Wednesday that might tip the balance for me. That’s how massive that game feels now.

I've been trying to look at form, points under Dyche and everything else that, logically, suggests we should survive.

But performances like last night scare the shit out of me. When the game really matters we seem to just roll over and die. It's the hallmark of a relegation side and despite logic, I do think we're likely to go back down this year. There are too many alarming traits to this team, and any positive traits seem all too fleeting and inconsistent.
