Only Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City have scored more in the top-flight than Newcastle (51), who are averaging over two goals per game and scoring at a higher rate than they did last season.

This is a crazy statistic. What went wrong since last season? Well a couple of things. It's easy to blame the defence but let's be honest our forward line hasn't been prolific either.

Obviously teams are now starting to target Dan burn as it's common knowledge now he's the weak point of our defence. That said I think we miss joelinton massively and really could have done with Tonali or even willock with willock being a big part of our pressing and attacking game.

We've still managed to pull out some really good results, rode a bit of luck and defended well at times. Not really sustainable though and we really need to sort out our defending as a unit. It's brilliant schar is getting forward but burn needs to stay back. He offers absolutely nothing going forward and doesn't even attempt a cross I've no idea why he does these overlapping runs only to play the ball back. Would love to see us play with a proper left back.
 
Another stat is we've conceded more goals since Xmas day than any other team in the Premier League (17) but they haven't been all Burn's fault.True he is not the fastest player on the books but he has been an immense addition both in defence and from corners at both ends and even scoring. The 10 games in December has taken its toll so without blaming injuries and bad luck (it could and should have been us playing Real Sociedad and not PSG on Wednesday night) lets see how it pans out. We aren't doing too bad and we are unearthing a gem or two. Miley is the best young midfielder I've seen since Gazza 40 years ago. The club has come an awful long way in such a short time and the big boys are looking over their shoulders.
 
It's not really Burns fault. He's never going to refuse to play. It's the manager's fault for playing him out of position. I mean everyone makes mistakes and Eddie is no different but when the media is blowing up and highlighting stuff, but you still refuse to accept it or don't see it by now - then it's very hard to be sympathetic. Most of our injuries were self inflicted this season and even Eddie has said that himself recently.
 
Victims of our own success. Injuries taking their toll. Just need to keep grinding out results or fluke as many as possible until some more money comes in.
