Furious cinemagoers say they were turned away from a busy Vue complex because they weren't Muslim.

Leon Jennings, 22, had been visiting Birmingham's Star City entertainment complex with two other friends.

But as he tried to enter the Vue Cinema on the site, which includes dozens of bars and licenced restaurants, he said he was turned away by a burly security guard.

Asked why, shocked Leon says he was told by staff the films showing were only for couples and families celebrating the end of Islamic festival Eid.

Be interesting to see how they respond. Not something that could be defended if true I wouldn't have thought.

When I first glanced at the headline I thought it said Stoke City, I thought well that will be a relief for some of our guys who were planning to go there. A good excuse to give the game a miss. I need to go to Specsavers..

Sack the person responsible I suppose. Although(and im not sure how reliable this is) on the boycott facebook page we have an ex-employee of Star City saying he knew about these things happening a years ago;

His words;

"Guys ...... I worked at star city and I was informed of this operation last year... This is not a one off its happened ever year in the past... And they are aware of the complaints but they in there words "I will run this site as I think best" I received so many complaints when I was there last year as I had people that had booked with me not able to enter so I had to get the site boss on the case.... and the head of security.... If they say there unaware of this it is a lie... Oh and last note...They even told me I wasn't allowed in to go to work cos I was white they didn't believe me that I was going to work ... It is crazy"

It's been reported in other areas as nonsense. The Cinema was just full, and people were turned away because of that. The Birmingham Mail dismissed the rumour as baseless, stating: “We have fully investigated these allegations and can find no foundation for them.”

Star City also issued this statement

“Star City is a family entertainment centre open to and enjoyed by all. Star City has enjoyed growing success in recent months and we have a proud record of community involvement. Over the past few days Star City has been extremely busy and the volume of traffic has been very high, causing significant traffic congestion and delays in getting some visitors access into the Centre. During the busiest times some visitors have been turned away and there has been some disappointment for some, for which we apologise. However, there is simply no truth in the recent allegations – the nature of which have no place at Star City.”

Well of course they would say that; They are hardly going to say that they support people being turned away on the grounds that they are not Muslim....are they?

one of the 'reports' I read on this also had asian lads (so presumably 'Muslim') turned away as they weren't couples or families' and it was full.

Seems like baseless drivel tbh

seething with faux outrage innit

Ah good, another storm in a teacup,

Would have been highly irregular and very wrong obviously. One would like to think anyone would be allowed to share and enjoy a different culture.

Shame these reports come out before being properly vetted, because some will believe and not see any retractions if and when made.

Tripadvisor also has a few comments regarding these allegations.

LOL. It's not an anti-Muslim campaign organised online. No. It must be true.

I suggest people check out the Twitter pages of the people involved. It's very enlightening.

If the Birmingham Mail, a paper not averse to running the odd anti Muslim story, won't run with it, then you know something is wrong.

The only racists here are the ones seeking the headlines.

Some people don't want to know the truth, they just need their own twisted reality reinforced.

Why would they turn away paying customers? What a ridiculous rumour, started by the racist biggots again! No business turns away paying customers without a bloody good reason, certainly not if they want to stay in business and with Star City being a successful business, this would never happen. More bandwagon bullshit! Anyone who believes this is just finding an excuse to stengthen their existing prejudice.

True enough heathfield. as said, it's a great shame. There is enough hatred without people whipping it up.

This sort of discrimination does go on though, my local gym keep insisting the changing room I want to use is ladies only. Totally sexist and discriminatory in my opinion. Still, the judge disagreed so that was that!

Brilliant!!! Start a Facebook page. I'm sure you're not the only one.

Yes there are enough genuine problems with Muslims in the world without newspapers whipping up sales by reporting rubbish .

Hang the lot of the Muslim bastards except my neighbour because he's alright.
