Squeaky Bum Time

We are getting into the tickly bit, as Bruce described it. 10 games to go and it's all to play for.

Wolves are 7 points ahead of us but their form is poor. If they can't turn it around on Tuesday, they are in big trouble.

Cardiff are 4 points ahead of us and in fine form but they have got to play both Wolves and us (not at the same time).

We are in decent form too and look like by far the best side in the division when our key players are fit. 7 points is a lot to make up in 10 games.

Fulham aren't out of contention for the top two yet. They are in fine form and could yet have a say in events should there be a major stumble.

Is anyone brave enough to make a prediction?

Yes.

Villa champions, Fulham second, Cardiff third, Wolves fade to fourth.

In other news, I'm thoroughly enjoying drinking some Guinness this afternoon. This may have influenced my prediction :8: :8: :8:

Actually, in all seriousness, I fancy our chances of winning the league. After yesterday, the confidence must be soaring. We should fear nobody. There is no reason we can't reel in Wolves and as they have to play Cardiff the week before we do, it could be all up for grabs when we meet the Bluebirds.

Come on you Villa boys! :94: :94: :94:

As I’m superstitious about this stuff I refuse to put my honest suspicions in writing in case I jinx the whole thing.

1 - Dingles, 2 - Fulham. Villa top of the rest. I honestly think Fulham are the best side in this league right now, Mitrovic has given them momentum they need.

That said, if we end up in the playoffs we may scrape a win... or three.

No idea how it will all turn out, this league is mad.

Feels like only a week or 2 ago Wolves were 15 points ahead, now it's half that. They are under pressure because this is their first dip in form all season (the Leeds result was a false dawn).

I can only see as far as 2nd spot, no more or no less. I think Cardiff will drop points (maybe even Tuesday) and we have a huge game at home to them.

If we keep winning, then Fulham are not a problem, and I can see us overtaking Cardiff. I think Wolves have enough quality to get themselves over the line, but you never know, their dip has come at a hugely important time.

Logic suggests this but logic doesnt come much into football.

Both times we finished 2nd, we basically bottled under pressure due to lack of experience, whilst the teams with the experience just ground out wins week after week.

Lohic would suggest this will happen to Cardiff. How many of their squad have coped with the nerves and tension this all brings.

I have been saying all season, from the bad start, the upturn in November, the stumbles, even the fact we got 5 on New Years Day

This has all the hallmarks of 1988.

Just this time - dont take it to goals scored and 15 minutes past the final whistle please - i have a bad heart now !

What we saw yesterday was a mature, confident performance by probably the best team in the division; it confirms the feelings on that great run of ours. We might let the odd game slip but I think there's a good chance we can keep the performances at this level until the end of the season.

The other 3 teams in contention have to match that. I don't think any of them quite can; they will slip, the question is by how much?

If I'm right we'll still be ahead of Fulham. If we beat Cardiff then I think we'll grab 2nd spot. It's a big ask to overtake Wolves, but they're in a bad patch and nobody knows how deep.

So, it's going to be squeaky bum time definitely, but I fancy our chances for second spot.

Wolves make slip a little but I don't expect them to collapse like a pack of cards. Bruce has built a squad that has experience of this type of situation....plus we have JT. Ok, he may not have experience of a promotion fight, but I feel he has enough experience to handle the pressure.

Cardiff and Fulham? Not large squads, suspensions and injuries could play a part, plus they may take a dip in form.

So, I'm sticking my neck out and saying Wolves to be Champions, Villa 2nd automatic promotion place.

You just know when we play Cardiff , Warnock will send his henchmen out to cripple Jack.
If we can keep Grealish fit for the 10 games and the likes of Terry Chester Snoddy Albert then we can do it.
Great to be challenging at the top end of a table .

Next 5 games are all against bottom half sides.

QPR (H)
Bolton (A)
Hull (A)
Reading (H)
Norwich (A)

There is absolutely no reason why we can't win all of those putting us on 84 points with 5 games to go.

I don't want to get carried away, the players can't either they need to focus and take each game seriously, but if they do we should win all 5.

Noriwch away could be the most tricky. They are draw specialists so I might expect a draw there, but still, 13 points from the next 5 games would set us up nicely... and then next up Cardiff at Home which could be like a cup final!

I think the difference now is Grabban. We spent around £45m on strikers and didn't get much for our money, especially with Kodija injured. Hogan, despite is effort, hasn't been at the races this season.

I think Villa will go up automatically but in second place behind Fulham. If Ryan Sessegnon stays fit then they are currently the form team but Villa have to get back above Cardiff to a position where it is in their own hands, better to know if you win and win your up rather than looking up waiting for the teams above to Implode ala Leeds United every fucking season :59:

I still don't get the Fulham love in.

They're on a decent run but they'll lose one eventually and when they do I can see them doing a Derby and slipping away rather than doing a Villa and bouncing back.

They're a 2 man team, and Sessengnon and Mitrovic won't keep this form up for the next 10 games.

Anyway, after we win our game in hand tomorrow we'll be 4 points ahead of them. Cant see us throwing that away any time soon.

Yes the pressure is on now and its interesting to see how people cope with it.

I notice Rowett had a bit of a meltdown yesterday.

The Fulham love in is for the way they have been playing recently, that said I watched Wolves demolish a poor Leeds United team on Wednesday and actually feared for Saturdays game.

As long as Villa go up I don't give a shiney shit about the rest....
