Squad Numbers

I notice a few were shown on the new away kit launch.
Have the others been announced at all has anyone seen?

Nope.

The only reason I can think why the club hasn’t announced them yet is because we can’t actually fill the subs bench.

Maybe there will be number gaps which will give us a clue as to the positions DC is still looking to fill. Maybe JA and Rheady are fighting over the No9 shirt. Maybe they are going to confuse everyone by rotating squad numbers. Maybe ...

JA was wearing 29 I think in the away kit photo shoot. Harry Anderson still 26, Waterfall 6 and Freck now 8. Interestingly neither keeper had a number on the shorts.

McCombe still signed on as a player, then. No number 2 yet. Presumably Eardley is attached to his 23 or he would've taken 2.

Ref Vickers I think it might just be a case of age seniority and time served that has meant he is No1. i expect he'll start as the first choice but reports on Smith sound very positive so he'll have to be at the top of his game to hang on to it.

Some players are very superstitious so will stick with a number throughout their career if they can.

At least they now have something to put on the backs of those awful shirts now. The question is: will they look any better with names and numbers on them?

I thought Clive Nates' response to Melvyn Prior's question about the new shirt was very diplomatic. When asked what he thought of it, Clive answered, 'Let's say it's a bit of an acquired taste. Let's say it's grown on me a bit more...but I did wear the away shirt last night.' All to a backdrop of laughter from Roger Bates.

Thought McCombe had retired???

He remains registered as a player for emergency purposes, but Danny said a year ago that it was very unlikely he would ever play. If he is maintaining his fitness at Football League level, then I suppose it makes perfect sense to do that.

Very slightly better...
Next year they need to have 3/4 designs and then let us choose, loads of clubs do that.

Call me an old git, fogie, etc but I still preferred it when the eleven players on the pitch had numbers 1 to 11 on their back. I know formations have varied so numbers don't necessarily match to positions but generally speaking your goalies no1, defence is 2,3,5,and 6 etc and I hate the present offside rule too, moam, moan, rant rave etc, "when I were a lad"......
