🚺 Spurs Women

What is Kelly's situation at City, are you thinking she is unhappy with her playing time?
She is in her last year of contract and hardly got used in Oz - so that says a lot that she will become a fringe player until she agrees a new contract (if offered)

She has won most things but if she really wants playtime in the WSL why not come to us - what has she got to lose? unless she is happy to become a bench warmer to the newbies

So a recap on the 2025 players due for review and contract checking (do they have a low release clause !!!!) - only 2 worth keeping in my book.

Molly Bartrip (will be 29) - signed in 21
Amy James Turner (will be 34) - signed in 22
Kit Graham (will be 29) - signed in 19
Ashley Neville (will be 32) - signed in 23
Martha Thomas (will be 29) - signed in 23
Luana Buhler (will be 29) - signed in
Roz Ayanne (will be 29) - signed in 19
Olga Ahtinen (will be 28) - signed in 23
Becky Spencer (will be 34) - signed in 19
and those still questionable
Summanen (will be 27) - signed in 22 - contract expires 2026.

sorry to say but out of this listing only 1/2 players are worth keeping and that is Molly and possibly Martha.
Molly has consistantly been our best CB defender since she signed in 2021.
As for Martha a lot depends on her scoring record this season. She did very well at the start of last whilst Beth was recovering from surgery but tailed off in the 2nd half .. she scored 6 goals out of 38 appearances for the manure spreaders but scored 7 out of 19 appearances for us but then she was not alone ...
Beth has scored 17 in 26 appearances and Naz only 11 in 80 appearances... so on those stats she is worthy of staying another 1-2 seasons.

I am still convinced that we can get better players than Naz so I do not see the point of her long term extn just because she was homegrown thru our academy.
Build up her values - yes but use it to sell on and get better in. I still to this day do not think she is good enough to be a regular starter in the England set up let alone be in it (she only started as a tick box action by SW) nor do I see the same in Araya Dennis. Both are very similar. Nice to have but dont expect to build your future on as imho they both will not get any better. Araya is no way in the same class as Citeh Bunny who she has been likened alongside. Definately not.

She gets a fair amount of game time but I don't think she's been an automatic starter for a while. She'd be useful with Beth and Raso.

From that list it looks like we could do with some younger players.

Yep but this time they have to be TOP drawer young blood - not hopefuls that can or cant be developed. We have been lucky thus far with Charli Vinnie (who could be greats) but not so with the deadwood that cant be grown again in my book.

We have signed what looks like some good talent with Raso Nilden and Hunt maybe not so yet (hopeful) with Ella Morris (not been tested at WSL level)

I now think that our Bob is waiting for Skinner to leave next summer and he will probably move to that mob .. so i dont expect him to be so demanding this season for better players. He will for sure hide behind his "developing players" view point.

Real shame for the young lass - I hate seeing this injury but not such a great loss if being honest as I reckon she will gone in the summer anyhow but having said this it will put more pressure on RV and SM to ensure they get players in within the next 8 days becos if they backfill with academy players we will for sure take a big dive.... only G-Williams is maybe worthy of being added to be tried during low key cup games as the only other Milly Boughton (another Matilda in the ranks) may be still too young to be upgraded at 18 but will develop with another loan me thinks along with others in the pipeline.

we now only have 19 players in the squad !!!

Also BIG NEWS - and at last the team list has been updated in the web site

That's horrible news for Kit whatever your views on her abilities, she had only just got back to regular games after a previous bad injury hadn't she?

Doesnt sound good at all and hope more research continues into how to prevent this or reduce this in the women's game .. the men seem to be not so prone

Maybe its the way they train?
Maybe its the footwear as they are really designed for the male? and no so just for women.

A case for a Doctorate to be in Sports science me thinks

I reckon a running thread would do for matches, sld. It's just one thread with the latest match at the top. If we wanted to, we could go back on the thread for previous match information. ???

Yes, I reckon we could just start with a generic WSL match thread and see how it goes, if we attract a lot of comments regularly we can always consider a specific match thread for each WSL game.

OK sounds good and that is why I asked about having a draft tab to make it easier to come out and research and cut and paste as needed when creating one

Only a couple of weeks and dare I say it - a few fisty cuffs when the manure boots arrive behind closed doors

Im still not confident we will do that well until I see 3/4 Top players coming in
A GK (Misovic from the Blue rinse mob would help shore up the white posts)
A 20+ goal striker (trouble is all half decent ones have all gone now) and
2 creative midfielders (one being Cloe Kelly)

Hmm if Aston Villa get their "top fee" striker in then they are back into the top 6 fold making it even harder for us... so bottom 6 mix is where we will be for the forseeable future unless future results go our way.

Top 6 - Blue Rinse mob, the Red mist bandits, Citeh, the Manure spreaders, the Pool pirates and the Villa cleaners.

I wouldnt be so concerned if it were not for our blazingly obvious weaknesses that are still here in our club team
... Poor Goalkeeper (good in training but rarely uses it in live games)
... Poor creative and often underperforming midfield esp when the Finns play
(we need 2 top drawer midfielders in asaspo and why I wanted Angeldahl or someone like Hasegawa - clearly we didnt move on either of them)
... Ageing but exerienced front line that needs the creativity behind them to do their job ... but boy do we need to go find a 20+ lethal goal striker

Bottom 6 - looks like us, Everton, Palace, Wet Spam, Leicester, and Brighton .. so who will be best of the rest? .... unless we address the above it probably will not be us unless we have a string of lucky results in our favour and others dropping points when we least expect.

The season starts soon - cant wait. COYSW

Ellie Brazil got another 2 goals today in their (Charlton) 3-0 win to go with the one she scored last week in a friendly ... as i said many a time in the past she was really Champ level and I am glad she has found her level .. she never complained as far as I know when being in the shadows with us

So 3.5 days to go before it all closes and we have to deal our cards on the WSL table and see where we fair in the 12 team mix.

Are we better than last year? .. honestly - yes we r, as long as we minimise the use of Spencer Ahtinen and Summanen but Bob wont do that will he!

We still have a very weak GK in Spencer and yet she is still here and a weak and constantly underperforming - non creative central midfield with Ahtinen Summanen and Graham (the latter now out for the season with another ACL injury - I hate seeing this to anyone)

Will that change in 3.5 days remains to be seen?

I am hopeful the new "spy" GK from Wet Spam who is 6 foot and more athletic than Spencer may be chosen but then Barbora was better and she never really got a look in did she before she was sent packing.... so who knows?

We still only have a 21 player squad so we have 2 places up for grabs when the top fill up to 25 (but then they have Europe to contend with unlike us) - so will we see 2 more coming in? ... possibly but then lets ask ourselves .. who is likely to come at the end of a window?
.. panic signings in reality or maybe good players that have had no other offers and left our decision to last resort .. so what does that say about the pull of our brand eh? .... OK maybe I am being a bit unfair and there are some leagues that wont release players until the very last moment even if we have offered the release clause monies ... who knows as we are told zilch, so for another year we are all mushrooms once again amongst the flower beds of Potspur Way - not many butterflies seen this season

So with the incomings .. I am eager to see the Wizards of Oz installed as regular first teamers (incl Charli benching Nev) and see some Yellow and Green magic installed on the pitch .. Anna looks good in her Vid but can she handle the WSL remains to be seen. Amanda is ours and should continue to be our best defender if she can keep fit and I hope Molly will be back to her best. It will be an important season for Martha Beth and Matilda as we badly need to start scoring but then Raso may still have the scoring rascal in her. Trouble is they all need feeding from misfield and that is where we are poor and it has not been really addressed bar extn for Drew (I am pleased for her but she can only last 60 mins nowadays)

3.5 days and we will know where we stand

Rumours abounding of 2 more incoming....we will see, but it's anyone's guess the truth of it.
