Spurs v Roma highlights

I've just watched the entire game.

Anthony Georgiou impressed me a lot. Winks is going to be a big player for us this season. CCV looked way more comfortable in a back three and the penalty was very harsh. KWP didn't do bad at all but he is very right-footed and whilst looking comfortable on the left didn't really make any impact. Oakley-Boothe looks very good for his age but nowhere near ready for this level in that position. GKN is still very sloppy but he created a very good chance and he needs more game time for us because his pace is punishing. Wimmer was pretty shocking but he looked like he was fouled for their 3rd goal. Janssen looked hungry, got his goal, but should have scored the chance that led to Winks' goal.

The rest of the players don't really need a mention. The officials were ******* appalling. Roma were given a penalty that should not have been given, we were not given a penalty that was 100% a foul and they were directly responsible for both sets of players becoming very frustrated and getting a bit salty.

matic,

good summary - except to say on the balance of play , we really shouldn't have lost this.

We were very unlucky to not come away with a result. The ref made sure of it though. A little extra thing I noticed was how driven Kane is. He looks like he might be adding a bit more fire to his game. I was impressed with all our other first teamers who played though, with a special mention for Davies and Trippier. Davies especially was very animated and vocal. He was visibly annoyed when any mistakes were made, including by himself, and he put in a very passionate performance. I get the feeling Poch is doing a bit more training of the mind this preseason and injecting more fight into the players.

Good to see the younger lads get some game time. A positive we have seen this summer. That ref is a right ******. lol

I was absolutely flabbergasted by the performance of the ref. He didn't even see the 'handball' for the Roma pen, yet gave it after allowing play to continue and then asking the fourth official for his opinion. He didn't take the opportunity to watch pitch side video which was available to him, but relied solely on the fourth official who was in a terrible position to see the incident. Later, Kane beat Fazio to the ball and got caught by a late boot. Blatant pen. With the ball in touch the ref then ignores calls for the foul and refuses point blank to seek confirmation from either the fourth official or video. Baffling to say the least. This then set the tone with the Spurs players putting themselves about like they were playing Le'Arse. Kane and Dele on another day could well have received more than a caution each. Friendly, nothing about it was. Shoutout to the kids who were involved in a much harder contested game than had been planned for them.

A very frustrating game indeed. I really enjoy Poch "show casing" our young up and coming talent.

Apart from Oakley Boothe, they all looked fairly comfortable out there. The officials should be accountable for their dreadful performances that nearly resulted in the sending off of Kane and even Poch, whow could not curtail their frustrations.

Well done to Janssen and Winks for our well deserved goals. I also watched the entire game and was just settling for a draw when 5 seconds after our second, we switched off and conceded a third. Lloris did nothing all 2nd half apart from pick the ball out the back of the net, and Vorm made not attempt to save Roma's weak penalty. We had nearly 60% possession and dominated the 2nd half.
As Spursex says, we really should've won this......even whilst playing our kids. :26:

Our performances show that with the addition of 4-5 appropriate players we could compete seriously for silverware.

But who is going to buy those players?

We could hope that only with new, ambitious with winning titles and trophies owner(s).

There isn't another way.

F**k the muppets who want glory no matter the cost. I'd take and do take as much pleasure at being at the ground singing 'he's one of our own' or watching a player who's come through our ranks and showing what the club's 'philosophy' is all about, and doing it whilst we're still improving both on and off the pitch.

That's continuous improvement.

Player after player is saying that the group feeling inside the club is so strong that we don't need to go spend vast sums on players with money we don't have. Money can't buy that type of togetherness and dedication to the cause.

We get another kid or two into a break-out season with us and I'll be celebrating at the ground along with the real supporters, pushing our chests out and screaming our lungs out for them, just as if we've won a cup, and so will most around me.

Didn't Poch get sent off and say "Nah i'm alright, i was just disagreeing with the fourth official in spanish", before sitting back down in the dugout?

Yep, just that. Pretty much told him that as no one else could understand them, it didn't matter that he was having a go ...smart man, I shall use that with the wife tonight...
