Reports are abounding this morning that Spurs may face legal action and potential sanctions including a points deduction which would cost them Champions League qualification.
This extraordinary action is being considered as it seems they made a complete balls up of keeping the tension in the race for the Premier League title going until the final day of the season. An unnamed source from the broadcaster said...
"We are gutted. It was all set up, everything was geared towards having another last day drama. Helicopters had been booked and we have been polishing the replica trophy for weeks. Spurs have dropped us right in it when they completely failed to follow the script by drawing against West Brom last week. West Brom for **cks sake! We set it up nicely - mid table team with nothing to play for and they can't get a shot on target. Ridiculous. Now it looks like we'll have to sex up the race for promotion from the Championship"
The source refused to be drawn on whether he was referring to the denial of a clearly onside goal for Middlesbrough on Fridy evening in their game against Birmingham. The resulting draw has kept Burnley and Brighton firmly in the race for the title and has led to some concluding that, having been denied a last day of the season title battle between Spurs and Leicester, the powers that be have decided to generate a spiced up "Billion pound race for promotion" contest in the Championship.
The source did go on to say...
"We had considered action against Arsenal but they ballsed up their chances ages ago. As usual. Pointless even considering them. No, it's Spurs we're really hacked off with. We gave them everything, Mark Clattenberg at the Etihad, John Brooks as the assistant referee at White Hart Lane in the reverse fixture. That was a six point gift and they blew it. Well, no tv coverage for them next season if I have my way"
Sky and the Premier League were unavailable for official comment as they were busy meeting trying to find a reason for justifying delaying Manchester City's game against Southampton until Monday. This would give them the ability to focus on the Premier League celebrations expected just outside Manchester on Sunday afternoon should Leicester defeat Louis van Gaal's team.
"We're looking hard at this. It would be a shame for Manchester City but as we don't cover the Champions League fixtures any more we don't give a sh*t and if it screws up THEM (we assume he means BT sport) then all well and good. Anything to get back at them for reducing Sky Sports News on the day after CL games to an absolute joke. I mean we can only show pictures and written text FFS. Really bad news when most of our viewers can't read more than a few words in a row and really, really need the moving pictures or they just zone out. It's more fall out from Spurs cocking things up and it is really inconvenient that there is now another game after the Leicester fixture. We have a whole, series of "Underdog wins the league" features and can't squeeze them all in. Going to cost us loads of advertising revenue."
