Shouldn't McIlroy be in the overseas catagory? He's declared himself for Ireland not the UK?

Yes he should. If he's Irish (Southern) then he is definitely not UK so he is overseas.

Therefore SPotY will be Lewis Hamilton.

The Sports Personality of the Year reflects UK sporting achievements on the national and/or international stage, and represents the breadth and depth of UK sports.

Last time I checked Northern Ireland was part of the UK.

It's a 2 horse race this year between Rory and Hamilton. But lets be honest Rory should win it by a mile. 2 Majors, part of the Ryder Cup winning team, and cemented his place as the worlds best golfer by an absolute mile. He's taken golf to a level not seen since Tiger Woods hayday.

Nice fella too... (if you can see past the dumping your fiancée by text message fiasco).

Lewis did well, but even David Coulthard said success in F1 is only 20% about the drive, and 80% the team and the car. Plus Lewis is boring.

He's declared he doesn't want to represent the UK. He's representing Ireland he announced it this year.
So he should be overseas.
I will actually vote for Jo Pavey.
As for him being nice , I work with someone who knows him and Darren Clarke. He says McIlroy is a pr**k

McIlroy for me. I couldn't beat him at golf , but if Hamilton and me swapped cars and he drove my Citroen Picasso I am fairly sure I would beat him.

I do think F1 is an engineering contest.

He's declared he doesn't want to represent the UK.

No he didn't. He declared he wants to represent Northern Ireland rather than Team GB.

Sports personality is for UK athletes of which he is one.

Team GB is a Great Britain team of which he isn't one.

Quite simple really.

Agreed.

McIlory has proved this year beyond any shadow of a doubt that he is by far the worlds best golfer.

Has Hamilton proved beyond any doubt that he is the worlds best driver? No. All he has proved is he is a better driver than Rosberg.

McIlory can't get it, he's basically just taken a series of long walks around a course and avoided the sand pits.

:56:

And McIlroy has declined an offer to play for GB therefore he's Irish. It's very simple, can't see why you have such a problem. Let him try for overseas. He's also a twat.

As I say I'm voting for Jo Pavey.

Yes he's Irish. And Northern Irish are included in the UK and the UK is included in Sports Personality.

Get over it. ;-)

Paint drying gets my vote. Oh and they should change the name of the thing to sports person of the year. It seems to me that the winners usually have little or no personality, but are very good at their chosen sport.

LMAO! He's a cock! Hitler, nice fella if you ignore the plans for world domination and the mass extermination of Jews and Gypsies.

You've still got to beat everyone else.

DeanoVilla - 25/11/2014 09:38

McIlory has proved this year beyond any shadow of a doubt that he is by far the worlds best golfer.

Enters 17 PGA tournaments and wins 3 and has won 1 of 7 European tournaments in 2014.

So that's a win% of a staggering 16.6% Woop!

Compared to Hamilton entering 19 races and winning 11 of them, with a win% of 57.9%

Has Hamilton proved beyond any doubt that he is the worlds best driver? No. All he has proved is he is a better driver than Rosberg.

And the other 22 drivers! There are more than 2 cars on the track.

Juan makes a very good point.
And if McIlroy played for GB which includes Northern Ireland , then he should be included in the vote , obviously he doesn't deserve to win, but his inclusion would be fair. But he's playing for Eire. So he sould be in the overseas catagory. Simple.

I like F1 too and Hamilton is my favourite driver but come on, you could have stuck Johnny hebert in that car and he'd have finished top 2 this season. Hamiltons only rival was his team mate.

But most of your points above just don't hold any weight I'm afraid. Yes he won all those races in a far superior car to everyone else bar rosberg. F1 is team effort. I'll take a former drivers word for that.

If you wanna make up silly stats, then Hamilton only has to beat 20 other drivers to win a race whereas McIlroy has to beat 120 other golfers each tournament.

Hamilton has beaten 22 other drivers yes but does that prove beyond all doubt that he's the best driver? No. Not for me. Stick vettel, alonso or riccardo in that mercedes and would Lewis still have won? Maybe. Maybe not. Like I said, not proved beyond doubt and that's the nature of F1, you never can.

I don't really care. Like I said I like both sports and both men but personally it's a no contest and the bookies agree.

My real issue is that mcilroy shouldn't be in It. He's overseas. I will leave the fact that golf isn't a sport it's a pastime for another day.
