Tottenham could receive a boost with forward Heung-min Son potentially returning to training as soon as next week after heading back to London on Saturday.

The South Korean would join the likes of Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Steven Bergwijn, all of whom have returned to training after overcoming their respective long-term injuries.

Son utilised the period of no play in England to complete his mandatory national service in the South Korean Military Corps, where he was reportedly awarded South Korea's Pilsung Prize.

The 27-year-old could yet have to self-isolate - as he did in March when he returned from Seoul following surgery on a fractured arm - but only if he tests positive for Covid-19, as per the Premier League and government guidelines.

Should he test negative, then PA reports that Son would then be expected to return to Hotspur Way for individual training sessions from next week - and subsequently would be able to participate in group sessions when such a format is permitted.

The Premier League are hopeful clubs will be able to return to training by May 18, although still under regimented guidelines, allowing the season to restart in June.

Son - who has made a full recovery from a broken arm during this period - was provided a special exemption from mandatory 21-month military service when he led South Korea to glory in the Asian Games in 2018.

The Tottenham fan favouirte can now resume his footballing career without the threat of military service impacting his career.

I doubt whether there has been any other professional sportsman anywhere in the world, who has in the last three months travelled anywhere near as extensively, and who has presumably also been subject to extensive human interaction. Hopefully this has not, and will not impact on his health.
