Son finally signs new deal

Here is a simple question....what about the S Koreans hating the Japanese and visa versa? or is that old hat now, just a thought.

It's a national cultural thing, much like Pakistan and India. I've never seen Korean and Japanese students fall out here in the U.K but the press and narrative out there quite openly paint the other side in a negative light.

Every now and then a dispute over an island or a perceived political slight; raises the anger of the masses and Japanese restaurants and companies are boycotted.

Lots of hyperbole, negative historical dramas and constantly referencing their troubled past; doesn't really help dispel that narrative. Korea and Japan both have this same kind of relationship with China.

Great news...thougth that is a LOT of money...for someone I am not sure is a #1.

But like the kid, glad if he stays

I appreciate the goals and the fun and smiles he brings to the team but god he is overrated and that’s a lot of money. He brings a lot of money into the club tho from the Asian market so can’t complain too much I suppose

He's not overrated he's just inconsistent.

When he's on it he's genuinely one of the best wingers in the world, just a shame he goes missing for a third of the season.

Thanks sukho.

I'd be happy for the contract to be formalised. I doubt we'll get a 'big' signing to replace Harry and that frees up the salary for more than just Sonny's increase. We also made a significant financial saving by not appointing the manager and his sidekicks for over 7 weeks!...

As for his role, well, even with a limited squad returning to pre-season, the game last night seemed all about chemistry between Dele, Moura, Bergwijn and Son. I think they're already working on life without HK.

Please no more forwards as the capt/vice. I'd rather a midfield general wearing the armband.

Let's await the announcement tho as Bale was promoting the new kit in Times Square before his departure!!

BTW, if Sonny is to be 'the man', then I'd also want to see someone else becoming our corner kick taker. Whilst Sonny is unlikely to be challenging for headers, I'd deploy him just outside the box for 'dribble and shoot' or ready for 'breaks' - Vardy-esq.

Best news today!!! Now let’s move forward with a new belief … with or without HK we are Spurs as DT says he who dares!!! We will prevail we will be force so looking forward to Sonny leading the way…if we get the mix right we could surprise those who think we will be an easy touch!!!!

Have you heard the reports in the news about the Japan Olympics designers.

One made jokes about the Holocaust.
Another about fat women...call her Olympig !
Another said a meeting takes 2 hours longer if women are involved.
Another bullied disabled kids when he was at school.

Yes, it was shocking but It doesn't surprise me. It's still a bit backward in some countries in Asia regarding political correctness, womens rights etc. Women couldn't smoke outside and even had to ask a males permission if sat at the same table back then. Bullying is actually worse in Asia than here, every school I worked in had problems and rape culture in some universities and the military was rife.

Women teachers were encouraged not to go to a club without guys as getting drinks spiked or just dragged off to random guys tables by waiters is commonplace. Accusations of assault or rape usually get nowhere and sitting in the front seat of a taxi usually leads to a hand on the leg.

I'm sure attitudes might change over time but when I was there High School and University suicides were a regularity and bullying culture was evident in many a workplace because it is engrained in their culture of seniority.

Apart from all that, it's a great place to live.

I mean what did the Romans ever do for us ?

Let's face it he is now our main man. No chance would we market the new kit with him if he was going.

Play him as a striker and get Dele back in behind him.

He must score 20 Premier league goals for us. We are going to struggle if he doesn't.
I too think he will be staying but he could still be used for marketing even if he was going. Remember Bale's big billboard in NY shortly before he left? Advertisers want exposure and they will use the biggest named player to get it, regardless of if he's about to go.

True but Bale didn't play pre season and went on strike.

Another "news" manufactured crisis that never existed.

Good to see more confirmation of something that's been known to be done in principle for months.

Hopefully people will stop suggesting his eyes are elsewhere anymore.

It is now confirmed:

Sonny signs new four-year deal

@SpursOfficial
Fri 23 July 2021, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

We are delighted to announce that Heung-Min Son has signed a new four-year contract with the Club, which will run until 2025.
The South Korea captain, 29, has scored 107 goals and claimed 64 assists in 280 appearances in all competitions since joining us from Bayer Leverkusen in August, 2015.
‘Sonny’ wrote his in name into Club folklore by scoring the first Premier League and first Champions League goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the space of a week in April, 2019. He followed that eight days later by scoring twice in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City, another dramatic night on our way to our first Champions League Final.

Sonny’s stunning solo goal against Burnley in the Premier League in December, 2019 - where he ran from just outside our penalty area to score at the other end - attained worldwide acclaim, winning the Puskas Award for the best goal of the year and Premier League Goal of the Season.

He won his third Player of the Month award from the Premier League in October, 2020, and formed a lethal partnership with Harry Kane in 2020/21, their 14 goal combinations a record for a Premier League season. Both players were later named in the PFA Team of the Season.

Six times winner of Best Footballer in Asia, three times AFC Asia International Player of the Year and five times Korean FA Player of the Year, Sonny has been capped 93 times by South Korea, scoring 27 goals, including strikes at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups along with helping his country to win the Asia Games in 2018.

Speaking on the announcement, Fabio Paratici, Managing Director - Football, said: “We are pleased to have agreed a new long-term contract with Heung-Min Son as we move towards the start of a new season and a new chapter for the Club with Nuno Espirito Santo.

“Everyone can see the real positive impact he has on the Club, both on and off the field, and we are delighted that he will play a part in what we are trying to achieve in the coming years.”

Heung-Min Son added: “It was already a big honour to play here for six years, the Club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here.

“It’s like home, especially with the fans, the players, the staff. There was no decision. It was easy. I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon."
