SO, WHITE HART LA.... NO. QIA ARENA?

We're coming closer to the time when White Hart Lane as a Club Stadium identity is reportedly going to disappear and a new name will be brought into being. What do we all think about the prospect of losing part of our identity? The good old stadium has been (for me anyway) one of the main names that represents the club. Tottenham Hotspur FC is of course the Club's full identity but the stadium's name is synonymous with where we play at home and holds much of our identity, being who we are.

The search for a sponsor, who will undoubtedly want to change the Stadium's name to reflect its own ambitions, will be the big talking point.

I know we've discussed some of this on the forum under, 'The Stadium' but now that it's nearer to the time, what is our reaction like to losing our old location as a name?

I for one will be gutted to lose what for me is a large part of our identity. I LIKE the name, A WHITE HART, probably there's a link to our club colours right there and lent some of that to the Lily-whites nickname. I don't know why as the club progressed from it's birth, it didn't use the deer as a symbol rather than the cockerel but still, I like the name and because it is still going to be our location, I don't really want to lose reference to it. We're one of the oldest clubs in the league, there are few older. So from a tradition point of view, I would NOT like to see the name lost. SURELY commentators will refer to it and it's new sponsor as, The ***** Stadium at White Hart Lane.

SO HOW are YOUR feelings running? Can you see us losing our location name altogether in the future? AND do you fancy having a new name for the stadium that may take over some of the club's identity? After all, our 'neighbours' are spoken of as The Emirates. And what about a foreign image? THE 'Qatar Investment Agency' could render us 'The QIA ARENA'. Now that would not sit well with me.

OK, 'He who pays the piper.....' but what about this tune? Do we want to sing it?

Whatever the name/sponsor will be, it's going to be horrendous, no two ways about it.

Although the new stadium will be nice I think we could be in for a poor few years ahead unfortunately.

Make the most of the next few months...

I expect the new name with have some Chinese, Asian, Middle East connections. Its where the money is these days :23:

I heard glenn hoddle say that west hams pitch was to big for the style of football they play. Is that a fair comment and would that happen with us do you reckon?

I saw how bad we struggled at wembley and that makes me think. But then again how many clubs in the PL play a similar way to us now so it may not effect us at all.

It will certainly take at least a season to get used to the new stadium, so for the next couple of years I can't see us doing nothing in the league. We had our chance at glory in the last couple of seasons and fucked it :26:

They did a lot of ground work, questionnaires etc before designs were drawn up and a lot of fans concern was around losing the closeness and atmosphere of the Lane. So I would be astounded if they decided to change the pitch size (by much anyway).

As for the name, it's going to be a bitter pill to swallow no matter what it's called, but whenever I go, I will say "I'm going to The Lane"

Losing familiarity always unsettles people with memories of what went before, change in all walks of life is difficult, it's especially difficult for those with tribal loyalties such as football fans.

New stadium = a time to make new history.

It's the greatest single opportunity for growth our club will ever experience; be under no doubt the Wembley attendance experience clearly shows what is possible and how taking kids to the game can capture fans for a life-time.

With a revenue increase now being projected at £150 million a year after the settling in period it will close the financial gap between us and the Top 10 European financial giants in a substantial and sustainable manner.

I'm pretty sure that the club will deal with the sensitivity of the 'old' name well.

It's all about the future now.
