Smoking ban

I got most vices, but never ever smoked a cigarette. Tried a cigar one Christmas that I nagged father for. Nearly chocked me. Best thing dad ever did giving me that fat old cigar.
When I went to Cuba a couple of years back I was smoking a cigar a day and I brought back as many Cohiba's, Monte Cristo's and Romeo & Julieta (Churchill's favourite) cigars as I could.

When I started smoking them at home I realised how disgusting they actually are. There's something about being in Cuba, full of rum, which makes them taste good.

I hate it. Took a lad home from work last week and he smoked before he got into my car and it’s all I could smell for the 2mi to his, vile smell, had the windows open after. When I went to Serbia in 2019 it was like going back to the 90s/early 2000s where everyone smoked in the bars and clubs, walked out of a bar and smelt I’d gone through a pack myself.

The only times I’ve ever smoked is in Amsterdam but at least you can get high from that.

I remember being on planes when you could smoke as I’m sure many do .

What the actual fuck !.

A pressurised tin at 30,000 feet with something alight inside . What could possibly go wrong!.

And as for pubs and clubs before the ban, Christ the smell of your clothes the next morning.

You could only smoke at the back of the plane though.

That made a huge difference didn't it ?

You could never describe No 6 as smooth other than in comparison to Park Drive.

No6 were the go to fags when I first started buying them as a kid. 25p for 10. There was a small stall/shop at the top end of the High Street in Bromsgrove that would sell cigarettes individually. I can remember going to the market in Bromsgrove on a Saturday morning with my parents, making some excuse before racing the length of the high street to buy as many fags as I could afford.

Stopped smoking 23 years a go. Still use Nicorette gum constantly though.

I remember my grandad talking about woodbines (sp?) and being able to buy singles like it was a bar of chocolate.

Even in my day that just seemed weird.

Pleased to see Starmer has adopted Sunak's smoking ban idea, with it being on the cards again now I HOPE they look deeper into far more sensible ideas than Sunak's right (but flawed and dumb) proposal is.

Yes I was pleased to see that too 😀

Back in the day you were not a real man if you did not smoke, even James Bond smoked. All the war movies were full of smokers (cigars if they were American)
If ever I see my grandsons with a Vape/Cigarette in their mouth I will go fucking ballistic :smoke:

Madness...!

Of my old group of friends, nobody smokes but three of them vape. We all used to smoke back in the day thinking we were cool and macho, all of us except those two guys who vape now. They never smoked when we were teenagers but they vape now. I found it very strange.

The other fella is a total junkie. I'd imagine the vape is the healthiest of his "hobbies".

I'm not sure I kno any 'proper' smokers any more, most people just vape. The kids today don't smoke, they see it as disgusting, yet millions of them vape.

I also don't really like the sound of this ban and think it'll just go to the black market and imports that are even more dangerous.

As for the NHS, I think vaping has massively reduced the issues from smoking. They'd be better off really hiking up the 'fat' tax and making sugary drinks and fatty foods more expensive than fruit and vegetables. Could also make things like 'just eat' and 'deliveroo' really expensive by adding a high tax to that service. The NHS is under too much strain from people that are obese and have heart conditions and diabetes through being fat.

Definitely seems that many were looking at vaping as a way to stop smoking, now it is the 'new' smoking.

Looks really weird to me... smells horrible... and I am sure - as I said in a thread ages ago, this stuff will probably end up being just as bad as cigarette smoking.

Not sure how anyone considers looking like a steam train as they walk around as cool!

I used vape to stop smoking for many years. Still got the equipment in a draw just incase.

i will not pick up traditional cigs again. Been off them 12 years.

Just incase is more as a fidget tool as I don't use it in the standard way anymore

And the reality is the long term effects of vaping is not yet fully understood. I will stick a tenner on there being no benefits from vaping.

You would lose then Col, depending on the criteria you use. It's classed as 95% safe by the NHS.

The NHS stop smoking clinic give out vouchers for a vaping starter kit with Totally Wicked (founders of vape in the U.K) who have a toxin free report on their website.

They only use TW though so I'm not applying it to the rest as there is alot of crap e-vape out there

You are right.

There isn't enough research into it to assess longer term . That's acknowledged by the NHS on their site .

The tag line is that they are not as harmful as fags.

And they are recommended by the NHS to help you quit smoking and nicotine entirely not as a replacement long term. They recommend you quit vaping completely as soon as you can.
