Slave Labour?

It seems the government have ballsed up with their forced labour scheme to make people work for their benefits.

An idea that most people surely agree with, and should be easy to administer has failed because as I see it, the 'computer says no' mongoles at the DWP can't use their brains and see each individual case independently.

I personally am in favour of slave labour. The working classes have had it far too easy for far too long.

Time to get back to basics.

I think it's an excellent idea to get people working in their specialised fields. Providing slave labour to parasites like Poundland does nobody any good. If geology graduates were able to get 'working' on a project for the public good while 'earning' their benefits, I think everyone would benefit.

Unfortunately, the Tories are only interested in exploiting the people of Britain for the benefit of their mates from Eton.

No objection from me that people should contribute to earn their benefits, although I would have them helping the community and council's rather than private companies.

I agree totally with the scheme - nobody should be entitled to 'money for nothing.' Even those on disability can do something most of the time. This girl was taken from a volunteer role at a museum to work in poundland - utterly ridiculous.

The woman in question was told to work 40 hours a week for £65. These back to work schemes merely get people in on the cheap then decide after the placement that they aren't "suitable." They then get someone else in and the cycle starts again.

They've just had someone on the radio who was put on a scheme at Poundland. She was given more hours than the other proper staff, with other staff members then getting their hours reduced. She was also told there would not be a full time job available to her after her 'placement.'

It seems to me that whilst the scheme is a good idea in theory - companies like Poundland are simply taking the piss.

The job seekers should be placed in small businesses that need the help or with large employers where they can be subsidised but given a genuine opportunity to get on - not massive succesful businesses who just want cheap labour for no outlay, to boost already high profits and at the expense of their own employees. That totally defeats the objective.

It should be very easy to control and administer IMO.

Surely England has an internship programme?

Ireland started one with Fás my mate is currently on it he gets his benefit and then the company gives him 50e plus expenses...
Il be signing up to one soon as well should my job applications for America and London fail...

Anyway over here companies list their vacancies on the Fás site and people apply for it... Its pretty poorly advertised tho its mostly designed for grads like myself who need experience to get hired but somethings would suit older people too...
Its a bit controversial some are for it and others are against it... I did construction mgt & engineering and the lecturers from my course are totally against it they like the idea but its taking advantage of people... I mean they get a couple of young guys in for less than 10% of the cost and Iv heard first hand of companies taking the piss with people...

The incentive is pretty shit but the stats dont the % of people on an internship who get a job during or after the placement is extremely high... I get 110e a week but Il only get 50e on top of that so if my jobs apps fuck up Im going to have no choice but to go for an internship because competition is so fierce...
160e to work a minimum of 40hrs/week plus travel its not ideal and its not fair but if its for a real company with real prospects then we dont have much of a choice... Sit at home and do nothing or try make something from a less than ideal set up...

I have an uncle and a cousin both using the scheme in Ireland CDX. Like you said it's not ideal, but it increases a candidates skills set by attending courses and maintains the routine until things improve.

Nothing wrong with the idea, however if these companies have vacancies for people then they should be employing them instead of getting free labour. Which only results in them not advertising the vacancies as they can fill them for free.

As far as IDS goes i would like to see someone shoot him in the heart with a sniper rifle. He goes on about people being scroungers and dependent and then spends 39 pounds of our money on his breakfast. That guy has lived off us for his entire fucking life and begrudges a poor person 40 odd quid a week to live on.

****.

Agreed...

Its unfortunate people should be doing it anyway if they arnt doing much else but we are all selfish...
I am too Im too selfish/lazy to do anything for my community... Iv been on job allowance for the last three months and all Iv done is help out at little bit at the local football club but other than that all Iv done is apply for graduate positions...

The thing I wonder is what most people on benefits do Im bored as fuck for the most part... It wasnt too bad at first but after about a month/6 weeks I was doing the same old boring shit... Get up, do some stuff round the house for the parents then do look for positions and research companies...

I have been unemployed twice in my life through reduncies, and one from being sacked after flipping out at my gaffer telling him was a **** after he decidedn not to count my overtime i had built up over the month instead he turned it into a coupleof free days off?? lol

Nowfrom my experiances's being unemployed is n fun, especially when i had to find rent form my flat etc and food and bills it was a living nightmare actually,

But some people ive seen or heard make out job seekers allowance or other benefits that they are all loaded who claim them lol and getting something for nothing, well i paid into the system for 10 years before i claimed anything but its a safety net to help us out when things happn bad to us or unforseen health issues

like my grandad gets for hving his one leg taken away from him through placing a diseased bone in his leg in the 90's that almost killed him yet he had to finish work earlieras a result where he used to b a rollermill worker and was taching the apprentice's for free in his own time aswell,

Is it my grandads fault or anybodys that bad things happan to them in life?

It does piss me off when i hear folk talking down catorgrising all people on benefits into one imaginary figure lol it is a bit silly imo

If people who are on benefits are able todo things in life then agree helping out the area you live etc is a plausable idea but we know the councils will manipulate it into slave labour in the end aswell

I think the best thing to do for unemployed folk is get them re-trained at college like i did, use the time to get more qualifications and a better chance of another job under your belt

Or help them start new buisness's hlping them properly in the end is beneficial to all of us imo as they put back into the system then

Nice for those on benefits to contribute but this policy was always wrong, private companies getting free labour? If they had the hours to spend, why not give them the job? Not only that, just how much must the paid staff have laughed at those working for virtually nothing?

Very cruel.

I doubt that the permanent staff were laughing, They were missing out on work due to being "undercut". This policy takes money directly out of the pockets of employees. It must be a shit policy as I generally position myself to the right of Attilla the Hun and I don't support it.

They would still laugh at someone being mugged off though.

I should know, I laugh at my staff at Fear Towers every day.

Staff? I thought the favoured expression was minions.

No one mentioned that the corporations, businesses like poundland actually pay a fair amount more, but this is to the gov, they do end up saving on employee costs, but the gov actually make more from your weeks work than you do! Aren't they wonderful!

Then of course you wake up to the fact that you were born into slavery anyway, you work your arse off to live, and you give the lions share to your masters, as a slave you have an illusion of freedom, but you will rarely get wealthy enough to buy your freedom.

Remember all those rich corporations who dodge paying their taxes, you try and dodge yours and you would be at risk of imprisonment, and at the very least end up paying MORE due to fines and costs, the slaves get hammered, the slave owners don't.

You are all slaves.
