Sissoko 'My future is at Tottenham'...

Spursex

Alert Team
Sissoko has told beIN :

"My future is at Tottenham and I am trying to give my best there.

It is my first season and I am trying to learn because it is a new style of football, a new team and a style of play that is completely different to what I have played in the past.."

It must be the smaller pitch, the round ball and having to pass that he's struggled with, oh and running around a bit, as Harry would say .... :10:

Controling the ball, first touch, crossing, tracking back. Cutting edge Guardiola philosophies those

If we start games with him as the starting CM regularly we are in trouble

I'm OK with what he said. In fact, I'd be disappointed if he said anything different. He showed humility that he's in learning mode to come to grips with Poch's philosophy. Despite the transfer fee, at this point in the season he is just a number in the squad trying to impress his manager and force his way in.

I should say, I've far from given up on him yet, and I do know that his fitness simply wasn't good enough to play the high press and re-press and the expectation under Poch's system that every play can get up and down the pitch without having to take a 2-minute rest.. :19:

Seriously, the high intensity press because of the number of intensive sprints it can involve and the ground you have to cover can be a real shocker to you when you're used to playing physically within yourself...

That was sort of Newcastle's downfall though. In the Prem, they relied on counter attacking football with Mitrovic spearheading the attack and guys like Wijnaldum, Sissoko and Townsend bursting forward with their pace. It was guys like Tiote that were left stranded when they lost the ball and were caught up the pitch and not making the effort to get behind the ball. Early on his career, Sissoko was definitely an all action, box to box player with endless energy and aggression and more defensively responsible. He needs to get back to that as even for France he wasn't doing it, despite those great runs forward with the ball.

Sissoko can definitely be one of those players that get the ball back to front quickly on a football pitch.

IF Poch can get him to apply himself and learn the game as Poch wants it played inside his 'philosophy' I am actually looking forward to the direct - attack mind influence he might have when/if he replaces Dembele, he may not have Dembele's dribbling skills, but he certainly can match him for strength and tackling ability....

that said, until he does show he can do it, he's a poor buy..

Hopefully, he'll soon show he can make that conversion.

Isn't this the third time this season he has come out with exactly the same comments? Not knowing the system properly or lacking fitness does not excuse how dreadful his ball control is. The dude just needs to get his head down and actually give us fans something to be hopeful about.

I thought it was the second, but who's counting :10: :17:

Fitness does affect touch and form is affected by confidence - whilst I argued we shouldn't buy him because of his lack of consistency, it's worth balancing it by what he can play like - and moreoften than not inconsistency is a direct function of fitness and ability to recover...

Anyway, as you say, he has to fight his way in and show he deserves more starts.

The figure reported for Sissoko was a club record £30m, but the fee was split into five payments of £6m with Newcastle United only receiving the full amount if he stays for the duration of his five-year contract.

Get rid of pronto then the experiment would have cost a mere £6million....giving him away would be sound business! :2:
