Sir Richie Benaud

Steve from Oz

Vital Football Legend
Today Australia lost one of its greatest cricket players ever and one of the worlds greatest cricket commentators, Sir Richie Benaud.

Sir Richie died peacefully in his sleep at 84 years of age.

He commentated up to 2 seasons ago. He suffered injuries in a car crash soon after. He died in a Sydney hospice dealing with one of our prevalent problems over here, skin cancer.

Unfortunatley we are now starting to see the loved sports personalities of our earlier years leave us.

As with Tony Greig, cricket has since never been the same. It will be a lot less the same from this day forth.

Great cricketer, outstanding gentleman, fabulous personality, one of Australias greatest and loved and dearly cherished Aussies.

RIP Richie.

Very sad news indeed. As a teen, I enjoyed watching cricket almost as much as football and I remember his commentaries well. He was the voice of cricket.

RIP A great man who I can recall as a big part of my early love of cricket.
I still say ' and he's gone ' in an Oz accent every time England get a wicket.
