'Deadly Doug' as he was called by some within the game.
Villa's last really great success came when he'd been voted off the board (League 1981, European Cup 1982), although he soon returned.

I'm pretty sure that irked him, and I would say as a figure among Villa fans he was comparable to Peter Swales at City.

5 live just reported - 35 years and only 13 different managers.

The way things are going some modern clubs will do that many managers in 5 years.

The days of managers building up teams over a period of time are long gone, owners now want instant success even in the lower leagues, the influx of foreign players,Sky cash and refs being card happy and untouchable have made the game a shadow of what it was, players are on obscene amounts of money and they no longer play for the love of their local club
