Sir Chris Hoy reveals he has terminal cancer

Anyone remember Sports report on the wireless Sat teatime, all the footy scores and stories of the days fixtures. They had a geezer on called "Lesley Welsh The Memory Man" could answer any sporting question asked, used to laff my bollox off when a question was asked. You could hear rustle, rustle rustle coming rhru the airwaves as good owd Leslie was looking up the answer in his encyclopedia, ofcourse his answer was correct every time, very knowledgeable gud owd Leslie! Another was Peter Brough and his dummy prop Archie Andrews. Really popular on the wireless but when TV took over we realised that ventriloquist Petes gob moved a lot more than prop dummy Archies. Other favourites from that era on the wireless were "The Goon Show" and "Dick Barton". I even got a reaquest read out on Sunday lunchtimes two way family favourites in 66 when serving in Borneo with an "Up The Blades!" thrown in for good measure. The song I chose was, "I,m walking backwards for Christmas" by the "Goons!"

Jeeeez, an all time classic, that's what, starring the great Jackie Gleason and Art Carney. I feel sorry for you youngsters missing out on so many things.
I've just seen that the first episode was released in 1955 and it only run till 1956 so maybe that explains why I didn't see it Mahat. We got our first telly for the Queen's coronation in 1953 but it was BBC only at ours for the first few years. I had to go to my auntie's to watch the good stuff on ITV like Rin Tin Tin and the Lone Ranger but I was only at infant school so the Honeymooners humour might have been a bit beyond me...although I did have my first crush on the lovely Lucile Ball back then.
