Sincil Drain

I know it's been mentioned on here before, but am in the process of doing some sorting/tidying and came across a "Lincoln in the 1950s and 60s" picture booklet. One of the pics is of the civil works increasing the depth and width of the Sincil Drain, and turning it from grassy banks into a concrete channel. Thought it may be of interest or nostalgia - I remember it being done and the change, since my grandma lived in Ripon Street so we'd often go that way to Queen's Park, as well as to footy matches. And my dad reckoned drainage of the football field was never as good after these works had been completed

Remember it well my Granny lived at No1 Sincil Bank right next to the railway footbridge and long since demolished, recall paddling in the Sincil drain and the sandy banks when I was about 4 years old.

We lived on Chelmsford St I remember paddling in the drain I must have been 6 or 7 so around 63/64. My Gran lived on Walnut Place when it was terraced, the works meant she had to be more careful on the way home from the Portland or Ripon :guiness::guiness::guiness:

Didnt some of our supporters fall in it when a temporary footbridge gave way after an FA Cup game ? Think we lost 3-0 to who cannot remember, wet feet were the only 'injuries' I think !

May be a daft question but, what did they do with the course of water while they were doing the work?

What a lovely Lady your Gran was.

The bridge collapsed in 1964. If it was FA Cup, the 0-4 defeat by Sheff Utd on 4 Jan 1964 would fit.
