Sincil Bank 1980’s v Oxford

If my memory is not playing tricks it was also very windy and I remember almost been blown off when crossing the railway bridge. If I recall the conditions were in our favour as we were 2-0 up at half-time with Oxford taking advantage during the second half to level at 2-2.

It was in near gale conditions, but although we were 2-0 up after 13 minutes with two goals from John Thomas, Oxford had levelled the score with just over 30 minutes gone with goals from (aargh) Trevor Hebberd and Mick Vinter. In the second half, although the weather was against us a good defensive display prevented Oxford from scoring.

(All details as per Maurice Burton).

Their side had beaten Manchester United in the League cup (after two replays) earlier in season, and romped to promotion on their journey to the old First Division.

This was the match partly played in torrrential rain, right?

With rain/sleet and the recently installed fenced/cage at the Railway End it was hard to see the match at times. Oxford played well and should have won if memory serves.
