Should Stonesy Be Made Captain?

Johnny Baguette

Alert Team
I mentioned this previously and in the end felt experience should be the answer. Then the armband was passed around again.

But having watched John Stones barreling out of defence Vinny style and leading by example when everyone else in defence panicked today or just could not hack the pace, I am beginning to think we need a bold decision.

Why? I think we need a settled leader in Vinny's absence who becomes vice skipper when he returns. Stonesy will play the majority of the games and in his own words recently said: "I'd like to be captain one day."

I thought we lacked a big director and a voice out there today and it could be he has seen that too.

I see you point JB Stones does appear to have an old head on young shoulders but could be a bit soon for the captaincy.
Having said that however, apart from Fernandinho who else could be promoted.
We certainly need some consistency not only in the team as a whole but alas again, in our defence.

Does it matter? Apart from shaking hands at the coin toss, what does the captain do? As you mentioned Stones was leading by example without the armband anyway. Having said that, he'll be captain before the start of next season

Not this season, maybe next , probably the one after.

He is still learning, although MOM yesterday, he needs time to absorb more from Pep.

Depends what happens with Kompany, but Stonsey is young and could he handle being captain and maintain form, not a job for everyone.

He needs to earn more brownie points first, If Vinnie gets better, he not get that many games.

I reckon the otter would be the one to miss out if Vinnie gets himself sorted, I'm pessimistic about the chances of that happening though.

Yup. The impression i get is that Pep is a big fan and has big plans for BB, so don't think he'll miss out much
